~Luther~
I stood at the balcony of my room, the view of the castle in my eyes.
It was just a matter of time and I'll be king.
Once I get Vadka's words, that Zayne has been killed then it's celebration time.
'Sir, you sent it to me?" Thorn appeared behind me.
'Yes, gather the crowd, we have a big announcement for them."
I ordered Thorn, my voice stern.
'Yes sir!"
Thorn stormed out of my room at once.
After a while, Thorn returned back to my room.
'Sir, the people await you!"
'Okay, let's go!"
I put on my black leather jacket and left my room, Thorn by my side.
A large crowd had gathered at the yard, eagerly waiting to hear what I had to say.
I climbed an upliftment, my figure visible to everyone gathered.
'In case you may not have noticed, your king has been away for a while."
I said my voice rang through the yard.
Loud murmurings soon escaped from their lips, their voices tinged with surprise.
'Yes! He has been. And he went to the most dangerous part of the world, just a few days ago.
Right now we are unsure of his return, if he may be alive or not.
But for the sake of it, if Zayne indeed comes back, I would like you guys to give him a warm welcome back.
But for the unfortunate case he doesn't, then you guys are lucky to have a competent king like me waiting in the wings!"
I finished to a mix of reactions from the crowd, understandable so.
Some wouldn't like to welcome thoughts of Zayne not coming back, but soon enough they'll have to face the reality.
'Gathering adjourned!!"
I finished the announcement and returned back to my room.
The wait for me was becoming more and more tense with every passing moment.
Vakda, send me the message that he's dead already.
I can't wait anymore.
Maybe I should pay him another visit?
From the view outside, the weather had already changed.
The sky painted itself yellow, the evening was upon us and very soon the night.
KNOCK
KNOCK!
A loud knock thundered on my door.
I reluctantly walked to the door to open it. A part of me was hoping to hear there is a vampire waiting to speak with me.
I opened it to see Thorn yet again.
'Yes, what is it?"
I asked him in a stern voice.
'Sir, we have a massive problem!" Thorn said, his voice laced with worry.
'Yes?"
'Zayne just showed up to the castle a few minutes ago!"
What? No way.
I remained speechless after Thorns words reached my ears.
'NO, no, no, no. It can't be. You're wrong." I refused to believe Zayne was alive and just returned.
'Sir, I wish I was but I saw him with my own eyes.
He returned with Emily."
'Excuse me for a moment!"
I closed my door, and locked myself to my room.
I still couldn't believe my ears.
How is Zayne alive? How? He's justj
a Lycan isn't he?
'Arghhh!!!" I roared out in frustration.
What must I do to become king of this goddamn kingdom?
Maybe I'll just take a knife match up to Zayne's room and stab him continuously till he dies.
Zayne, get a hold of yourself. Get it together.
After all, he still fights Vadka in a few days, all I have to do is make sure Vakda kills him, I'll do whatever it takes.
I sat on my couch, deep in my thoughts, exploring all the possibilities of the fight between them.
Since Luca and his troops couldn't kill Zayne, then I'll leave it to Vakda himself.
But just as I was still in deep thoughts, a loud knock thundered through my room again.
'What again? Can't I have my peace in this kingdom anymore?" I roared in annoyance.
I managed to leave my couch, and walk to the door.
What?
My brows were raised in surprise, myips forming an ‘O' shape.
I was surprised to see Zayne standing in front of my door.
His brows furrowed at me. I could feel the anger bubbling up in him.
'Welcome back bro…" I didn't finish speaking when I felt a strong fist land on my cheeks sending me back into my room, as I retreated a few steps.
'You bastard. You dare try to kill me, your own brother, out of greed."
Zayne grabbed me and took my back to the wall.
He firmly pressed his hand against my neck, almost choking me, while he used his other hand to rain down punches on me.
He kept on yelling at me to admit it.
Admit that, it was me who settled him up.
My lips curled up into a devilish smile.
'Yes.
I was the one that told Vakda and set you up. And you and your little girlfriend Emily should have died!!"
Saying Emily's name only angered Zayne the more.
Just like I wanted.
He rained down a few punches on me. The pain was felt around my whole body.
'Are you done punching?
I know you don't have any evidence that proves I did it.
And without evidence you can't jail a prince." I said so confidently.
Zayne finally released his hold around my neck, as my legs met the floor.
'For now you're safe brother. But as long as I can see the light of day, you will never be the king of this kingdom."
Zayne's next words almost amused me. Does he think I'll blink twice if I get another chance to kill him and become king.
'Fine by me!"l left Zayne with a few words to think of before he left.
As I slammed the door, I could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
How did he know?
I'm sure that bastard, Luca told him, so Zayne could spare his life.
Today was a close call, if Zayne had any evidence of any sort, then I'll be in jail right now and all hopes for me to become king would vanish.
Nevertheless, whether Zayne knows I'm hunting for his throne or not.
I'm not going to stop.
I will do anything it takes to get it. I'll kill anybody, any Lycan or vampire or even human who stands in my way.
But, with Zayne knowing I need to call in the troops and inform them.
It was already late in the night. The midnight clock was almost at hand.
So it was best that I leave the meeting tomorrow. First thing in the morning. Now that Zayne knows I'm after him, we have to be very careful with our next move.
I slept through the night, barely. I couldn't just get my head off what Zayne might have planned for me.
It was best I act fast before he acts on me.
I didn't waste any time in taking a shower and quickly stormed out of my room once the sun was fully out.
I headed straight to the maid quarters and to Steph's room.
I knocked on her, my movements were urgent and restless.
After a short while, she finally opened the door.
'Luther what is it?" she asked, her eyes were dazed, her hair scattered.
'Gather the troops and meet me at my room in five minutes."
I ordered in a stern voice before walking out.
After anxiously waiting for five long minutes. They finally walked in.
I left the door open to avoid the stress of going to the door.
The five of them walked in, and Thorn, who entered last, closed the door behind him.
'Okay, we have a serious problem on our hands."
I started off, my words stirred up worry in their hearts.
'Some of you may know. Zayne is still alive and… '
'And what of Emily?"
Steph cut in before I could finish.
'Yes she is as well."
I answered her. I could tell the relief in her eyes finding out her sister is still alive.
'But that's not the only problem we have. Zayne now knows we were the ones that set him up!"
What? Is this bad? Oh no, we're dead.
We are definitely getting arrested.
Words of despair escaped from their lips. Worry filled their hearts.
'But don't worry. I always have a plan!"
'Your plan isn't working for us, is it?" Reta asked, her voice stern.
'For now no. But soon enough.
Zayne doesn't have any evidence against us, so we are safe for now.
But we need to act swift and safe before he does.
Right now, his focus will be on fighting Vadka in three days, so he won't pay much attention to us."
'And?" Reta curiously asked.
'That's our chance, all we have to do is make sure Vadka kills Zayne.
But that's the problem, Zayne has the sword of ages.
So we need to do everything we can to steal that sword and hide it long enough till it's time for their battle.
After that, Zayne won't be alive to know who stole his sword!"
~Emily~
My eyes fluttered open to the bright sun that reflected in my eyes.
The sun was bright, and I hoped the day was too.
Today seemed to have a different feel about it. A feeling that was absent for a while now.
I got dressed and rushed down to the kitchen as quickly as I could.
Today, I had planned to resume my job as Zayne's personal maid.
The reason I stopped was because I was angry at him for lying.
Well, at least I thought he was.
Reaching the kitchen, the atmosphere seemed a lot different from when I was left here.
The joyful and merry spirits of the other maids weren't there.
All their beautiful and warm smiles were wiped off their faces.
I wasn't sure, but I think it might have something to do with Flora.
She brought a spark to this place that no one else did.
'Look who's back here!!"
A stern voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
Crystal!
The one thing I didn't miss about this place.
'Hello. I'm here to pick up Zayne's breakfast." I said, my voice laced with a certain elegance. A tone I normally don't speak to her with.
'Okay, it's the tray by your left." Crystal managed to force the words from her mouth.
I walked out on her and grabbed the tray before leaving the kitchen.
Seeing the state of the kitchen, how dull and lifeless it was, it made my heart grow heavy. Flora was a major symbol of light for the maids, and with her being missing, it seemed to suck the life out of them.
I shrugged off those thoughts in my head and continued till I was at Zayne's room.
I stood for a few minutes in front of his door. I was trying to muster the confidence to enter his room.
It's been a while since I served breakfast to him, who knows what his reaction will be.
'Phew.
Here goes nothing."
Taking a deep breath, I gently knocked on his door.
'Come in, Emily!!"
I heard Zayne yell from his room. I felt a bit embarrassed that he knew it was me at the door
So did he know I was standing there for a few minutes.
I gently opened the door, the creaking noise breaking the silence in his room.
And with a beaming smile on my face, my eyes bright as the sun, I served him his breakfast.
'Good morning Zayne!"
'Good morning Emily. It's been a while, right?"
Zayne fixed his piercing stare on me.
'Yes!
So, I'll meet you later, right?" I said before turning to leave.
And stepping out of Zayne's door, I heard a familiar voice from behind me.
'Welcome back Emily. I'm glad you're alive."
I turned around to see Steph, her face relieved to see me.
'I really am."
She said before walking away.
I was left dumbfounded by her words, my morning taking another huge twist.
