~Zayne~

The sun shone bright on my face and directly to my eyes.

Squinting my eyes tightly, I reached for the window and shut it close.

I could barely sleep last night. My heart was deeply troubled.

What does Luther have in mind? I was sure he does, after all he made it clear, that he's still coming for my throne.

I could only wonder how I've lived with someone so greedy for power like Luther.

I got freshened up properly, for the first time since we left for the temple.

Today was a massive day for me. It's the first day of my training with the sword of ages.

I only have two days to train, so I personally instructed Rowan to make the training very rigorous.

Just then, I felt the presence of someone just outside my door.

Emily?

Why is she here?

I thought of calling her out, but if I did it might make her embarrassed.

I'll just wait for her to knock.

After a couple of minutes, I finally heard her soft and gentle knock on my door.

I missed her knock!

'Come in, Emily!" I yelled out to the door.

She gently opened the door, and walked in with a tray in her hand.

My brows were slightly raised in surprise.

Since when did she resume being a maid?

'Good morning Zayne." she said in her warm voice.

I couldn't take my eyes off of her. Her face was beaming like the sun.

Her eyes sparkled like glitter.

Everyday, she just seems to become even more beautiful.

'Good morning Emily!" I said, I still couldn't take my eyes off her.

She dropped the tray on the stool.

'See you later, right?" she said as she turned to leave my room.

But looking straight into her, deep down, I could tell she was still troubled.

I just wish she could tell me what was really troubling her.

'Well! It's time to head out to the fields!" I quickly drank the warm tea from my cup. I grabbed my black leather jacket and stormed out of my room.

Reaching the fields, I wasn't surprised to see Rowan standing at the center of the fields, with the sword in his hands.

I left him to take it to his room, after all, he will be the one training me.

'Welcome brother!!" Rowan yelled out, as I slowly approached him.

'Good morning bro!"

I said as we shared a hug.

'So let's get straight into it, shall we?" Rowan said, handing me the sword.

'To defeat Vadka we need to know the full power of the sword of ages.

So I'll keep my distance and we will test it out on these squirrels."

Rowan instructed. And I couldn't agree more. To defeat Vadka, I need to know the full extent of the powers of the sword."

'Okay. I'm ready!"

Rowan let out a few squirrels from the cage next to him and walked away from the fields as he looked on from a safe distance.

'Phew!"

I took a deep breath.

'Arghhh!"

I raised the sword up to the sky and stabbed it to the ground.

And suddenly a swarm of fire consumed every squirrel in the fields.

But what amazed me even more, was that the sword was smart enough to only burn the squirrels and nothing more.

'Woah!!! That was incredible!!" Rowan yelled out as he walked back into the field.

'With powers like that of Zayne, Vadka doesn't stand a chance."

So, let's give it another run, shall we?" Rowan let out a few more squirrels out to the fields before walking away.

I took a moment to clear out my head. Entering a state of peace and void. Everything around me seems to stop for a moment.

'Force!"

I yelled out into the void. I raised my hands, the sword firmly set in my head.

'Wait!" 'Emily go!!"

I heard faint screams and noises. But I couldn't stop myself from hitting the sword to the ground.

And suddenly a great force seemed to blow out everything squirrel on the fields.

'I did it! I can control my powers!!" I screamed out. My voice was laced with pride.

But there was no reply from Rowan, to my surprise.

I quickly turned to his direction.

Seeing him crouched on the floor, he seemed to be attending to someone.

What? Who is that?I was a bit confused.

I moved closer, my steps cautious. I could see the fear and worry etched on Rowan's face.

I squinted my eyes tightly trying to get a good look on who the person was.

Wait! Is that… Emily!!

'Emily!!"

My mind went blank for a moment as I stared at her fallen body.

Soon a wave of urgency filled my body. I ran as fast as I could to their direction.

Her eyes were partly opened. She had bruises on her face.

'Emily please hold on!!" I said my voice tinged with worry.

Her eyes began to flutter, before gently closing.

'No.. Emily!"

I quickly grabbed her, as I ran as quickly as I could to the clinic.

Rowan kept pace with me.

'Emergency!!!NOW!" I yelled out at the top of my voice, a few steps away from the clinic.

And without hesitation, a few nurses brought out a hospital bed where I gently laid down Emily.

I followed her up till she was taken to the emergency room.

'Your majesty, please it's important you stay outside."

A nurse said to me, her voice trembling.

As much as I wanted to be in there, I had to obey the rules as well.

Even a king isn't above them.

I joined Rowan as we sat on a wooden bench. 'Rowan…"

'Yeah?"

I was a bit hesitant to say another word.

'Did I do this?" I finally gathered the courage to ask.

But hearing the answer would be even more terrifying for me.

'... Yes!

She just ran into the fields, I tried to call her back, but she didn't even know what was happening.

Then I tried to tell you to stop, but you didn't hear me.

And once your sword hit the floor, the force drove her all the way back.

And her body crashed against the walls."

Rowan's words made my heart sink in despair.

A strong feeling of guilt overwhelmed me.

The corner of my eyes heated up.

'What have I done?

I shouldn't have ever used the sword." I said my voice tinged with regret.

'And now, I may have been killed… '

'NO. You didn't. Emily's going to make it through this.

It was an accident, brother. And when she wakes up sure she'll understand."

Rowan said, trying to encourage me. But as much as I appreciate his help.

His words couldn't drive away the feeling of guilt.

Whatever happens to Emily, is all my fault. And I'll have to live with that for the rest of my life.

We anxiously waited in the hallway. I couldn't sit and remain calm, so I paced around the hall.

Soon, the creaking noise from the emergency door reached my ears.

A male nurse stepped out of the room, her face pale.

Bad thoughts began to creep in.

Is she dead? Or blind? Or paralyzed?

'How is she?" I asked fearfully for the answer.

The nurse took a moment before giving us a reply.

'I'm sorry to say this, Zayne, but right now she's alive but unconscious.

And we don't know when or worse if she'll wake up at all."

The nurse's words left me speechless as his words echoed through my head. It was as though my whole world just fell apart.

'There must be something you can do."

'You have to do your job!"

Rowan ranted at the nurse. But I didn't see the need for that.

It's not his fault that she's not going to wake up, it's my fault!!

Zayne!! Zayne!!!

I heard faint noises in my head before I snapped back to reality.

'Zayne, are you okay?" Rowan asked, his voice laced with worry.

'I can't stay here right now, I need to leave." I decided to leave the clinic.

I needed to be alone right now, to process what the nurse just said.

Without saying a word to anyone else, I finally reached my room and locked the doors.

My mind was still in a state of shock. I just couldn't believe that I would take the person I love the most with my bare hands.

Anyone who loves me, seems to always die. Maya and now Emily.

It's me! I'm the bad luck.

I spent hours straight in, locked up in my room.

The state of Emily, for me, was worse than shedding tears.

I tried so hard, but the tears wouldn't come. But her state left a scar in my heart.

A scar that can't be healed.

I don't think I can leave through with his scar. Emily was my life, coming back to me again. People don't get a second chance to love, I did and I ruined it both.

I made up my mind. I'm not going to use the sword against Vadka.

If I hold that sword, all I can remember is how I used it to hurt Emily and probably kill her.

I'm not going to walk into the fight with Vadka and accept my death.

After all, I deserve it.

KNOCK

KNOCK

A loud knock appeared on my door. But I ignored it.

In this state I can't even bear to look at anyone, talk less or even talk.

KNOCK

KNOCK

The loud knock on my door persisted.

I decided to check it.

I opened my door to see Rowan. He stood in front of me, his face troubled.

'Can I come in?"

After a short moment to think, I decided to let him in.

But I decided in my mind that he wasn't going to talk me out of anything.

'Zayne, you know she isn't dead yet." Rowan said as he took a seat on the couch across from me.

'Not yet though!"

'Zayne, you can't give up so easily. Emily needs you.

If she's ever going to escape this coma then, it's with you by her side."

Rowan really knows how to convince me.

But he's right, I can't give up on Emily just yet. She's still not dead yet and that's enough for me.

'You're right!!" I agreed to his suggestion. I quickly stormed out of my room.

With my steps quickened, I reached the hospital soon enough.

'Can I see Emily?" I asked a nurse who was in the room with Emily.

She nodded, and excused us.

I gently walked up to Emily's bed. Her lifeless body laid just in front of me.

My heart sank in despair on seeing Emily's state.

And it's all because of me!

NO! I can't think that right now. Emily needs me, I can't feel guilty for her. Not right now.

I took a seat next to her bed, I then held her soft and warm hands and gently shut my eyes.

'Emily, if you're there, I want you to know I'm sorry for what happened.

But now Emily, I want you to be strong. Strong for yourself, strong for Rowan, for me and for us.

I don't care if you hate me or love me, I just want you to come back.

Emily Love you. Please don't go, please!!" I said, my voice shaking.

'Sir, are you done? We need her to be alone tonight."

The nurse said, I then stood up to leave.

I gave one more hard look at her face, it was so innocent and peaceful.

I returned back to my room and laid on my bed, but the sleep won't come.

All I could think was Emily.

If in fact there was a slightest chance she could come back, I would take it.

I don't care whether she hates me for almost killing her, all I want is to see her beautiful smile and that sparkling eyes.

Lost in thoughts, I didn't even realize when the morning had arrived.

. I couldn't even get freshened up, when a loud knock thundered through my door.

I opened it to see Rowan, his eyes filled with excitement.

'Have you heard sir?

Emily is alive!!"

What?
