AXEL

Her wittiness, her readiness and the spark in her eyes all kept me wondering the mystery behind her.

She seemed to keep me glued to her personality and no matter how much I tried to separate myself from her person, I found myself desiring her presence all over again.

At first, it was the pride that she punctured with her rejection.

How could she play down the mate bond and act as though the bond meant nothing?

I had felt the pull to her and heard my wolf cry out in desperation, the four letter words that should ignite a burning sensation within any Wolf instead, it shut her away.

She did not want me.

She gave me a look of shock and disapproval.

I could see through her and I could see that she was not joking about her rejection.

How dare she?

A mere peasant and yet, she could not jump at the way I had brushed my palm against hers.

The imagery of her pulling her hands away piqued my pride all over again.

'Now, the event day was here and after pushing her aside and indicating that I no longer wanted her services, I still chose her to stand with the worthy servants for the reunification event.

Only a few of the maids were usually allowed for outings like this but in this case, she was the only one.

As much as I hated her guts, I had to give it to her, her expertise with handling my Chambers was great, especially my coffee.

So, when I asked her for a cup of coffee, I was convinced that she was truly the one to handle the event in that way.

Apparently, I was not wrong.

The guests had begun arriving and I stood by a corner of my throne room, observing the camera feeds.

I could see how Vanessa was treating them with honour even when it was not her duty post.

She seemed to enjoy every task given to her and she would do it with dedication.

While I had my eyes on the feeds, my throne door pushed open and Uncle Zack strode in with his handful of guards.

The sight of him irked me and I quickly shut down the laptop where I was watching the feed from, looking up at him with overheating rage.

'I had no idea that a staunch believer in 'no reunification" would show up at a reunification ceremony," I was teasing him to get him to spill his reason for being there.

I had a smirk on my face and I could bet that he saw that.

'I am simply here as your conscience to remind you that you are about to make a life threatening decision for this pack, Axel."

'Isn't that for me to bother about, dear Uncle?" I retorted, standing to face him, our heads almost touching.

'You have ruined this kingdom in more ways than one. You are not fit to be the Alpha."

'Says a man who ran away when the Kingdom needed him the most!"

My breathing was heavy now and I was furious. Uncle Zack was my nightmare and I could not wait to give him a piece of my mind.

He looked at me with contempt in his eyes and rolled his eyes in that way too.

'I will not allow you to do what you have planned for this kingdom! How dare you? You are not even a legitimate heir to that throne!

How would you think I will let you bring the Weird barbarians into the pack?"

Somehow, his threats were beginning to pass through me and it sliced through me like venom.

'You will not come into my throne with such an attitude and expect me to let you walk away just like that"

'That's a threat!" Uncle Zack replied, clenching his fists by his sides.

'You paved the way for it, Uncle."

I was not ready for a fight but he was pushing me and I was certain that if he did try his luck any further, it would be a fully blown out War.

He was breathing heavily, while I was calm but rage burnt through me.

'Fine! I am going to walk away like this messy conversation did not occur. I dare you to come after me."

He was probably afraid of me but would not show it because he was my uncle.

I said nothing to him . I just sat still and watched him walk away.

When he was gone, I sat back on my throne, reminiscing on his actions in the past and how he was pushing me to the edge.

I could feel the rage gradually dissipating but I was not yet settled.

I could tell that Uncle Zack meant trouble and he was not to be trusted in matters like his. So, I called in my beta, George.

As he walked towards me, I could see his face looking troubled.

'Is everything okay?" I asked, wondering what he witnessed.

'I just saw Uncle Zack with his men walking out of here."

George was perturbed.

'Ignore the monster," I replied, clearing my throat. 'I called you in here for that purpose. He can't be trusted. Make sure all exits are well guarded."

'Definitely sir! Did he threaten to destroy the event?"

'Not outrightly but you know he has been against this treaty for as long as forever. He is a threat, as far as his existence is concerned."

George nodded. He had been my beta for so long and he had a good understanding of the workings of my pack.

'If any foul play occurs today, the Solitude Pack would assume that we fooled them."

'Exactly!" I chimed in, nodding to his contribution. 'This explains why you need to keep your eyes down and follow all the movements. Did you plant the secret police in those strategic positions?"

George nodded.

'All planted and ready to shoot on order."

He was good at his role. I simply dismissed him and he left.

Then I picked up my laptop once again to continue viewing the security details.

I could not help but wonder what I had missed while Uncle Zack was bugging me with his words of threats.

I looked out for the elders of my pack and the elders of the Solitude Pack and they were having a conversation as I had hoped.

'In a short while, the treaty should be signed," I whispered to myself, smiling proudly at the economic decision I had made for the Black Devil Pack.

Then I looked at the feed from where Vanessa was standing previously, but she was not there.

'Where the hell has she gone to ?" I thought, looking through the rest of the feeds and trying to find her.

Then I saw her, she had moved to where the guards were, that same guard I saw her gazing at earlier in the day.

'Hmm, whore !" I grumbled, my heart racing with jealousy.
