AXEL

'What is it about this guard that she keeps going in search of?"

I was annoyed and troubled by her constantly trying to acquaint with him.

She seemed so overtaken and smashed by his presence and she smiled and warmed up to him, brushing his arm occasionally.

The sight of them piqued my heart with deep seated jealousy and I moved faster than my legs could carry me down to the hall to stop her immediately.

I was intercepted by Elder Sebestian as he was halfway to my throne room.

'The man I wanted to see!" he yelped as he got closer to me.

I smiled impatiently, wondering what he wanted to see me for.

'Is anything wrong?" I asked, my gaze darting from his face to the hallway, as I wished Vanessa would somehow appear there.

I was terribly unsettled.

'The treaty is about to be signed and you must be there to witness it."

Oh…" I grunted, my heart sinking with the thought of me leaving her longer with that fellow. 'Can't someone else sign on my behalf? It is just a signature."

'No, Alpha Axel. It has to be you! The Solitude Pack may assume that you not showing up means there could be an impending attack on them. You know that this is a delicate reunion, hence, it must be treated as one."

I gazed into his face, seeing the slight wrinkles on his burrows. He was my father's good friend and he had given me the same support as well since I assumed leadership.

As much as I was distraught, I said 'fine!" And turned to follow him to the secret conference room where the meeting was being held.

But, my mind was hardly at rest. It kept replaying the scene of Vanessa and that guard and I could not help but have wild imaginations of her following him to his bedroom and having a moment with him.

'Never!" My wolf screamed at me and I shrugged off the self inflicting thoughts, trying to focus on the signing process I came to the hall for.

The faces of the Solitude Pack representatives were expectant and jovial at the sight of me and Elder Sebestian walking in.

I felt a prick of pride in my chest as I saw how interwoven that had become with my elders with so much pride.

I was glad that I did not listen to the naysayers, with the chief of them all being my grumpy Uncle, Zack.

'It is an honour to have you step your feet in our soil once again," I began my official address, saying those words with expertise and carefulness.

'Our relationship did not start today, however, we all know the unfortunate events that led to this long time of beefing and enmity."

They nodded and some said, 'aye."

Another added, 'a dreadful situation."

I felt cheered on and encouraged to continue with my speech.

'But now, we have decided to change history. Therefore, we decided that we would lay aside our differences and foster that friendship and union that we once enjoyed, as well as the diplomatic and economic relationships that we had."

My gaze darted towards elder Sebastian and he smiled at me with a gentle nod. I felt energised and proud

'It is upon this premise that I, Axel Damon, the Alpha of the Black Devil pack now declare that my pack's portal with Solitude Pack is now reopened to foster a good, diplomatic relationship."

The guests and the elders clapped their hands with joy. I could see the joy emanating from the room, it was a delirious excitement and it piqued my pride.

Elder Sebestian walked up to me with the scroll of the treaty.

'Sign this then," he whispered and I took the biro and the scroll and cursed my signature on it, feeling elated at the reactions that came afterwards.

The flashing of the cameras of the media team who were covering the events increased my pride as I smiled up to them.

'I guess it is done!" Elder Sebastian announced and they all began to interact.

It was time for the party downstairs and I could not walk back to the hall. I felt panic, slightly in my heart as I wondered what Vanessa and the guard could be doing now that I had not viewed them in almost thirty minutes.

I walked down the corridor hastily, trying to catch up with her and make sure that I separated them from each other.

'But what claims do I have on her?" My inner sense pricked me with that reality and it caused me to suddenly stop in my tracks.

Truly, I had no claims to her. She had not accepted the mate bond between us, nor had I made her my woman.

She was simply a maid in my kingdom and she had the right to date whoever she chooses.

The realisation of this fact caused my heart to sink even further and I felt depression embracing me.

I just knew that I had to deal with it and let her live her life however she wished to.

With that thought, I walked to the hall, battling with my heart to wade off the pounding thoughts of how she gently rubbed the guards body.

When I got to the hall, it was lit. I hadn't not showed up since the day before when the decorations ensued.

I was terribly impressed by the work that the team did and I was sure that the Solitude Pack would forever talk about this after party.

Classical music played in the hall, filling it with so much elitist mood.

The guests were basically the elite groups from the Solitude Pack and a few low society members and then most of the citizens of my pack.

I could already feel the vibing and the joy emanating from the hall.

But I was not satisfied by it.

I kept scanning the hall in search of her.

'Where the hell is she?" I muttered to myself.

'A wine for you sir," one of the waiters stood before me with a tray. I needed it. I took the glass from the tray and the moment he moved away, I saw her right before me.

She was standing behind that same guard and her eyes were lit with excitement.

I felt my skin crawl with blunt rage as I walked up to them, wondering what I would say to her.

She seemed to notice my presence because she lifted her eyes and her gaze met mine. I saw her gently pull back from the guard and face her duty with her gaze faltering as well.

Once I was close to them, I cleared my throat like I was about to drop a bomb on them.

'You are Michael, right?" My gaze burned fiercely at the guard and he nodded hastily. I could feel his fear and anxiety.

'Yes sir!" He stuttered, holding onto his weapon with panic obvious in his eyes.

'A contract guard who thinks he can come in and overlook his duty. I have watched you all evening and all you have done is acquaint yourself with Vanessa."

'I–i am so sorry, Alpha Axel," he started apologising but I raised my hand to halt his speech.

Suddenly, I felt a weird thought creep into my heart.

'I would like you and everyone here to know that Vanessa is now my concubine, as of this minute," I declared without looking at her.

I could see the faces of the other maids turn blue with shock.

The expression on their faces made me proud. It meant that they understood exactly what I was saying.
