VANESSA P.O.V.



'You are more than perfect, the Luna title doesn't deserve you," he said hugging me.

"You are just saying that to make me feel better."

"Yes, I'm trying to make you feel better emotionally, but about what I said, I'm dead serious."


I stared at him with confusion written all over my face, maybe he was lying just to make me feel good. But Axel wasn't a man who would sugarcoat his words.



I don't know if I'm ready for the responsibilities of a Luna, but one thing I know is that I would always have Axel to rest my shoulder on. I smiled at him as he was looking at me expectantly.


I decided to pull his legs a little bit before giving him my answer. Frowning my face, he went from expectancy to worries.

'No. I don't want to be your Luna," I said.

'Why?" He asked sadly.

'Because….." I trailed off intentionally to heighten his fear.

'Yes, I will be, just pulling your legs," I said laughing, he laughed tugging me closer.

'Don't do that to me. I felt bad and sad when you said no." I laughed.

' I am sorry, I was just joking, I won't do it next time." I chuckled.

' I know pumpkin, the ceremony will be in three days. We will go to shop for our outfits together," he said, and I smiled


'Pumpkin, I will go back to my office, if you need anything, call me or come over. Make sure you eat breakfast and have lots of rest, you will need them." He kissed my forehead and left.

I looked at myself in the mirror and chuckled, I looked beautiful but not as Octavia. I cringed when I remembered what she did.

I flung her thoughts away from my head, and began to dance in front of the mirror giggling to myself. I need to tell Emily.

My stomach growled immediately, reminding me that I hadn't fed it this morning. I groaned, fine, I will tell her after breakfast.

Camille was at the table when I came into the dining room and I sat down close to her.

'Good morning, Vanessa," she said smiling.

'Good morning, Camille." I smiled back.

"I haven't seen you since Allison's execution. How have you been?" She asked.

"Very well, and you?"

"Here," was her only response as she sighed sadly.

'I know you don't want to stay here as Axel's concubine but you can't reject him unless he does."

'How did you know?" She asked, looking shocked.

'Your expression says it all, don't worry, I will talk to Axel so he can let you go. I promised, she stood up and hugged me.

'Thank you so much Vanessa, you are truly fit to be the Luna," she said smiling, and her smile was so contagious.

'Thank you, Camille."

"So when is the ceremony?"

"Next three days."

"Wow, immediately I would be the..." she was saying smiling, when we heard some heels, and I knew it was Octavia.

'I will take my food back to my room," I said excusing myself.

"Am I the one chasing you away?" Octavia asked, and for a moment it seemed like I saw hurt in her eyes, but I couldn't believe it since she was quite good at pretending.

"No, I wanted to eat in my room. Bye," I said as I walked past her.

Immediately after breakfast, I went to Emily's door and knocked at her door and she opened up immediately unlike her slow self, she smiled when she saw me.

'Oh come in Vanessa, Good morning," she said smiling.

"Good morning," I replied laughing and she looked up in surprise.

"Are you okay, Vanessa?" She asked, touching my neck.

"Yes. Do I look sick?" I asked, still grinning from ear to ear.


"Oh, nothing, just that you are acting like a stranger."

'So, if I'm happy, then I'm a stranger." She shook her head smiling. I let slip it because I was happy.

'Emily, guess what?"

"Noo, I can't guess, I suck at guessing. Just tell me, I'm already nervous."

"Okayy, I'm becoming Luna in three days," I said jumping. Her smiles died for a minute and I was surprised.

"Oh, wow! That's so good. Congratulations, Vanessa," she said, smiling tightly.

"Are you okay Emily? Does the news upset you so much that you couldn't even hide your displeasure?" I asked.

'Vanessa, why would you say that? I'm happy for you, and you should know that. I'm your best friend here and you are going to be Luna. More freedom here for me all thanks to you."

'Okay, for a moment, I could see your frown, but it's all good, I can't wait," I said laughing and she patted my back.

'You are so lucky," she said, and I smiled back.

'I know right?" I said, flipping my hair back and we laughed.

'I will be going now," I said rising from the sofa.

'So soon, why don't you stay some more?"

'I thought you would like some peace and quiet."

'Yes, I always want them but not after those news. I'm already too excited to be alone," she said laughing.

'Mind if I ask a question, Vanessa?" She asked.

"No, I don't mind rather, go on, ask," I replied munching the potato chips she gave to me.

"Thank you. How did he ask you to be his Luna?" She asked, and I looked surprisingly.

"I was still sleeping when he came in after a meeting with the Elders, and he asked me to be his Luna. I refused at first, but he insisted. And I agreed." I was blushing.

'Wow, that's so cute," she said smiling.

'Lucky Vanessa, and the fact that you are human makes all this seem like a fairytale."


'Shush, no one is meant to know that, don't shout."

'Sorry about that."

Feeling uncomfortable I decide to leave.

'I would be leaving now," I said and she smiled.

"Bye Vanessa," she said, and slammed the door.
