AXEL'S P.O.V

I was in my office thinking about Vanessa and her scent. Only her scent was able to get me aroused. And where was she? Because if she was in my territory, then one of my pack members would have brought her back.

My door opened abruptly and I growled at myself.

'Your highness," he called, I raised my head to him.

'Some men tried to kill me, but I hid under the bed, and they are heading to the Royal library," he said, panting from the run.

I got annoyed with the news he brought, and I had to stop them before they tampered with important stuff in the library. Mind linking the soliders, and they rushed to the Royal library surrounding it. Gabriel's voice brought me back to the present.

'Everything is under control, you can go back home, Gabriel," I said, dismissing him from my office. He nodded, leaving my office, and I looked out of the window.

I got up and went to my room and lay on the bed frustratingly, and I caught her scent again, but it died immediately, making me growl in desperation.

'Mate is around here. I felt her this evening, but it was brief," Lucian said, excitedly.

'I can feel her too, but her scent is wavering and I can't follow it. Or maybe she doesn't want me to find her," I whined sadly.

And I went to my balcony to take in some fresh air to cool my nerves. Sitting on the balcony for some minutes, nothing was working, so I decided to go for a run.

Changing into simple clothes, I left the palace for my favorite spot since I was a little boy. I shifted into my wolf and ran to the river enjoying the sweep of wind on my paws.

It had been long since I shifted into my wolf form and Lucian was overjoyed as he was finally able to stretch himself after staying inside of me for months without any release.

'I feel so much better having the privilege of being out in the woods at night," he said, excitedly. But his joy was cut short when we heard some rustling in the bush. I masked my scent and lay low.

Soon I saw two men running down my path and I hid in the shadows. They stopped to rest close to the place I was hiding in.

'How did the Alpha's men know we were in the library? They didn't even let us get in before surrounding us," one of them said, panting.

'It's obvious someone overheard our discussion and told the Alpha. We need to be more careful how we talk about our plans to ourselves.

We can text instead and make sure you delete the texts after reading them too, to avoid them getting into the wrong hands," one of the men said. He was stout and looking chubby.

'But we can't go back without the scroll, else we will be killed. I'm tired of all this. I don't even know which pack I'm asked to steal from.

Being a servant to him is worse than hell. I wish I could turn myself in, but if I try it now I will be killed as a traitor," the taller man said. I came in out of hiding watching them, but they were oblivious to their surroundings.

'You are talking like a fool that you are. Never let Mr Adam know about your second thought, else you will be killed." I was already fed up with their unnecessary bickering, so I unmasked my scent and they stopped immediately.

The frightened, the tall one spotted me first and his face mortified, the stout one followed his gaze and his eyes popped out of his sockets.

By then, the three soliders had surrounded them and the tall one raised his hands up in surrender.

'I'm sorry, please spare my life," he pleaded, and I nodded and the solider took him away gently because he wasn't arguing or questioning my authority like the stout man who frowned at his colleague for selling them off so easily. I mind linked them to take them away.

I went back to the palace and one of the concubines, Dysan, came close to me.

'If you dare touch me with your filthy palms unless you want it out of your hand in the most painful way ever," I warned, leaving her in the hall as I entered my room.

The next morning, I woke up, freshened up, and I left for the dungeon where the two men were. The only thing was the tall man wasn't beaten a bit because he said he would say everything while the stout one was acting up and the prison wardens had reconstructed his face.

'Open," I said, and the prison warden opened the cell door of the tall man and I went in. He looked up to me fearfully.

'Young man, you have been cooperating and that's good. If you continue this way, I can let you survive, but if you lie to me. Look at your colleague's face, it would be worse than that," I said, making him scared more, he looked at him shuddering.

' I will be truthful, but please promise you won't kill me if I tell you all the truths I know?" I don't have any intention of killing him though, since I heard he wasn't doing anything willingly.

'I won't. You have my word." he nodded.

'So, who sent you to this pack and why?"

'The man's name is Adam. We were asked to get a scroll," he replied, looking down.

'What scroll and did he tell you why he wanted the scroll?" He shook his head.

'He didn't say anything to me, but you can ask my friend, he's the one that is always on the phone with him."

' And what's your name?"

' Richmond, Your highness."

'Okay Richmond, I will be back later, don't worry. My wardens won't …" I got interrupted by some gunshots.

The gunshots were heard in the pack and I smirked, rushing out.
