TROUBLEMAKERS
I walk downstairs with my face shining like a bright morning star. I don’t think I can ever fool myself again into thinking I don’t need this man. He really charmed me. Life is not life without him. I am not complete without him. "Well, should we wait for him? Or maybe we should go upstairs and leave you lovebirds alone?" Grace teases me after I settle on the seat.
The smile on my face must be more contagious than I thought because I thought I had hidden it before getting to the table. Or they are just being annoying as always. I clear my voice. "Come on, guys. It is just a meal we are sharing. Not a bed!" I say.
"But still, you two have some steamy stuff to talk about, so we will leave you alone," Rose says, and they stand with their plates of food and glasses of juice.
I don’t believe them. Like, they are doing this?
"I agree. Make sure you tell him how much you still crave him, or else I will do it for you," Sherry says as they start walking away.
I don’t believe them, honestly. I mean, it is just breakfast, and we don’t need privacy for this. I guess it will be a romantic breakfast for me and Damian then? Gosh! They are just...
"Hey! It's too early to blush when the prince charming hasn't even arrived yet."
Can they just disappear from my sight? And, my! Why am I nervous over something we have done countless times? Jeez! I should perhaps start the breakfast. He will catch up, and he will find me. Then again, that would be so rude. And as much as I hate this friend for leaving me here to die from this enxiety, I am so in love with the wild idea of theirs. It has been almost two weeks since I had a moment with him. Maybe this will spice up something. Maybe I can forgive him, and we can go back to our old selves. Like I said, I don’t want to lose him, and I know he can’t afford to lose me either. So what is the use of continuing this break if we are both suffering? Because honestly, I miss him and all his memories, his deep love and affection, even his insecurities. I think I miss everything about him.
Before I could take a sip of my fresh juice to calm my freaking nerves down, my phone started ringing, almost making me leap with anxiety.
"Uuuu! He is calling you to pick him up outside. How sweet!"
These flirts are still here. Shouldn't they be gossiping in my room already? So annoying! I ignore them, and I check the caller.
Frown!
Greg? My father's personal assistance? Is everything alright in the office?
"Why the frown?" Rose asks as they all take small steps back towards me.
Huh? They should have proceeded upstairs. Or are you bent on ruining the steamy breakfast for me now? "It is my father's P.A." I respond in a hushed tone as I take the phone to my ears, motioning for them to remain quiet. "Good morning, Mr. Greg!" I greet.
"Good morning, Miss Riccaford! How are you doing?" He greets her back.
"Good. I am good! Is there a problem?" I ask.
"I am afraid there is!" Greg responds, and I can sense his apprehensions through the line.
Problems? This soon? What could be happening? "Why? What's up?" I ask.
"Your stepmother showed up here at the main office, and she is calling for a board meeting. Her daughter is also with us!"
Shoot! I spring to my feet! What nonsense is this again? Them again? A second time this early morning? They failed to cause a scandal, and now they have proceeded to the office? These people know no shame at all. "What?" I fume.
"Yes, ma'am! What should I do?" Greg asks.
What to do? What to do? I know these women can’t be up to anything good. But I can’t wrap my finger around what they might want from the Oh, wait, I think I can take a wild guess. She wants to take control now because my father is no longer here? "Has she stated her reasons for the emergency board meeting?" I ask as questions linger in my head.
"No, ma'am!"
No? She is indeed has a bomb prepared. "Alright, Greg. Ah, make arrangements for that emergency meeting but delay it as much as you can. I will be there in an hour. They shouldn’t know that I am coming!" I say.
"Alright, miss Riccaford! I will do that."
"Also, Greg, please locate our family lawyer and ask him to come to the office. Tell him to bring my father's last will with him." I say.
"I will."
"Okay. Bye. I will see you in an hour, and please make sure those women don't cause a scandal there. Try to control them. I don’t want a scandal barely a week after my father’s death. It will put a stain on my name!" I say this as I curse these women.
"Alright miss."
I drop the call and take a sip of my juice.
These witches are so unbelievable! Where did Father get these demons from? Why did we have to ruin our peace by bringing these troublemakers into our humble and peaceful home to cry out, Lou? What do they want from the company now? A board meeting? They have never worked for that company, not to mention being members of the board! I am getting too exhausted from this, honestly. I am sick and so tired of them!
"What happened, Ellie?" Grace asks as I leap to my feet again.
Sorry, Damian! Breakfast will have to wait for another day. I can't believe they ruined this for me. "Apparently, these witches never learn. It is time to force them to their rightful place since they can’t do that on their own." I say this as I start upstairs.
