"I DID not come from the ruling class but I always had this ability to see the future in a dream." Miracle shrugs. "They said that only the ruling family can acquire the gift of nature but I wonder why I got one when none of my ancestors had this."

The ruling clan takes over everything. While common shifters like Miracle ends up serving the ruling class for life. A generation creates one unique heir. Miracle said that Ymar was the youngest son in the ruling family. It was expected from him to have a special ability.

He has an ability to enhance his hearing. Ymar's ears are sensitive to every sound within a hundred meters, even when he's not in his rabbit form.

While Miracle's parents were all surprised and delighted by the news, they chose to keep her ability in secret to avoid problems. One might think that someone from the ruling family spent a night with a lowly servant like Miracle's mom. They don't want that. Especially when that is not true.

They can't afford to blaspheme their Supremes.

Miracle's family devoted themselves to the ruling family until their last breath. Now only Miracle was left to protect Ymar. No one else could do. She had been training since birth for this sole purpose of dying for another person.

"So Ymar know all of the late night talks, fights and the discussion we make secretly, is that right?" Penelope whistled. "And that young man still had the guts to play innocent in front of me? How vicious was that young man?"

"Please don't blame him." Miracle gripped Penelope's arms. "He had no one else left. Same as me. I only have him. He's faking it because... knowing means death, isn't it?"

"What about Michael? The other kids? Kayla and Broggy?"

"They're too young to understand us. At most, they will hate us because of the strange stuff that we do." Miracle sniffs around and sighed. "He's not here but the Old Sy's scent lingers in the place. What's the Old Sy doing here? He should be resting."

Miracle was right about the old man coming here. Penelope can smell the faint scent of his ointment. Although it amazes her how Miracle noticed it first before her. "Kid, your sense of smell seems enhanced too."

"Oh..." Miracle nodded. "We trained since childhood on how to detect a poison. Our sense of smell must be accurate for us to be able to serve the ruling class properly."

"There seems to be a lot of perks when one was born with the higher status, right?"

"You know it too. You're a beta. Every beta is being treated like an average worker. I've known all that. We heard the elders talk about how wolves distinguish themselves that way." Miracle gasped. "For me, you're not an average worker. You're like... Joaquin's boss."

"How do you say that?" Penelope wouldn't preen in the eyes of a twelve year old kid.

"Well... he won't eat unless you're seated at the table. His body is always faced towards your direction and he made sure you feel warm all the time."

Now that the kid mentioned it, Penelope grinned. "What can I say? I have a lovely mate. You're an observant girl in your little age. Does your head don't hurt after all that thinking?"

"No. I'm used to it. Thinking is good. It's healthy for the mind." She giggled. "I want to have a mate like Joaquin in the future too. But it's going to be hard for me."

"Meeting the one destined for you is a chance that rarely happens but then, you're named Miracle for a reason, kid." Penelope tilted her head to the right. "I can hear them coming. Looks like Lance really has a lot of plastic bags. There's someone with him though. Is this Ymar? That brat!"

"Stop talking." Miracle shushed her. "Ymar can hear you. The Roseliers' don't breed kids like what you just said."

"It's okay, little baby." Penelope patted her head. "Wow. You're loyal to him, huh? Don't worry. I will apologize once I made a mistake and offends him.."

"Uhm... okay. Just be careful. He gets moody real quick." Miracle shifted her feet as if to whisper something but in the end she decided against it. "Let's go and meet them."

"Lance should be swearing in his mind now. He hates me to the bone," Penelope said loudly.

Just in time, Lance echoed. "It's good that you know that. Where's Joaquin?"

Penelope eyed the man's haggard face and sighed in dismay. "Where's the bags? I thought you're going to buy clothes. What's with the vegetables?"

"Ask yourself and your wolf blood why this weirdness runs through your kind." Lance rambled. "That annoying shit crossed my way and stopped me. He almost bit my head off, I tell you. What right did he have to block my way like that?"

Penelope's smile vanished. "Your fated mate..." She changed her words when Lance frowned. "Ah, I mean, 'that annoying shit' who blocked your way was..."

"As if you don't know who's who!" Lance wiped the non-existent sweat on his forehead. "I don't know what did the man eat and he decided to chase after me in his wolf form. I swear I did nothing! Just... walking myself peacefully down the slope!"

Penelope didn't detect any lies in his word. He stank of cigarettes and fresh booze. She almost wrinkle her nose in distaste. "Is that his scent on you?"

"Well..." Lance looked pitiful and honest. "He... he tackled me and you know I just came out from a near-death experience so I'm quite weak and I cannot transform. He almost bite me without my consent!"

She couldn't take his words. That is indeed way too much! 'Why would his fated mate treat him like this? Is it that bad?'

"I'm sorry for that, Lance."

"As you should be!" He humped. "Now let us cook these off before they get all rotten and inedible. Is Joaquin done cooking dinner?"

"Yeah, he's waiting for the rest of us." Penelope asked, "Lance, are you really okay?"

"Yeah. Just fine. I'm going to be alright, Pen." He then blinked slowly. "I need to speak with Joaquin later."
