Upon waking from my nap, I glanced at my phone to find dozens of missed calls, all from Alex.
I called him back and said in a lazy voice,"What's wrong?I just woke up."
"I'm at the door."
"You're back?"
He opened the door in a hurry.I walked out of the room.He looked me up and down.
"Amanda,are you okay?"
Then, several other policemen followed behind him.
I asked with a dazed look,"What's going on?What happened?"
"The 127 murder case has occurred again. Now the perpetrator may have targeted you.The victim this time is a woman, and you may also be on his murder list now."
A look of sheer terror crossed my face as I threw myself into his arms.
"Let's get to work,"Alex instructed the other officers.
Then they immediately began a tmeticulous search of the house, leaving no stone unturned.
After that,I was taken back to the police station to make a statement.
"Ms.Brown, could you tell me approximately what time you received that blue box?"
"Probably around 9 o'clock in the morning,"I answered after thinking for a while.
"Was it delivered to you by your neighbor?"
"Yes,it was the neighbor across the door.I've met him a few times before."
"The surveillance shows that you talked for 12 seconds. What did he say to you?"
I recalled for a couple of seconds and said,"He said that the box was for Alex, but he asked me to send it to the police station, saying that it was something he would need."
At this moment, the policeman opposite me held up a photo,"Is this the person?"
I squinted my eyes slightly,"I can't see clearly. Can you bring it closer?"
"Sure."
The policeman put the photo in front of me.
My expression suddenly changed, and a panicked look covered my face.I covered my mouth with my right hand and said tremblingly,"He...he is my patient."
In an instant, the policeman was also very surprised.
The door of the interrogation room was pushed open.
Alex rushed in front of me and hugged me.I also hugged him with my trembling hands.
"Suspend the interrogation and let her calm down," the policeman said.
There were only me and him left in the room.I looked at him with a scared expression and asked in a weak voice,"Is the serial killer him?"
"Based on the current evidence, yes,"Alex said while stroking my head to comfort me.
"He is my patient. We meet every week."
"He may have targeted you a long time ago."
"Then...what's in the blue box?"I asked tentatively.
"The seventh body,"he said calmly,"The victim knocked on the door of the house across from ours yesterday, and then she disappeared."
My pupils kept dilating.
"It's okay,it's okay,Amanda.You're safe now."
I remained too stunned to make any sound after his reassurance.
Alex thought I was scared out of my wits. After taking my statement,he personally escorted me home.
And the moment I stepped into the house,I showed a relieved smile.
