Finally, ten days later, they got news of me.
When Alex appeared before me, I wasn’t very surprised.
After all, I had only faked jumping into the sea. They were bound to find out I wasn’t dead eventually.
By then, with my new boss’s support, I had already undergone surgery on my fingers and legs.
My vocal cords had also been replaced from dog’s to the best artificial ones available.
I could already speak freely.
The doctor said that after another six months of recovery, singing less challenging songs shouldn’t be a problem.
But regaining my former melodious voice would likely still be difficult.
Thinking of this, the hatred I felt for Alex surged up again.
"What are you doing here?"
He looked pleasantly surprised at my current state—able to stand and speak.
Overjoyed, Alex reached for my hand, but I frowned and pushed him away.
"Isabelle, I’m sorry. I was wrong before. I misunderstood you. Come back with me, okay? Mom and Dad miss you terribly..."
"Mr. Lawrence, your sister is Ann Lawrence, not me. In all the years since I was brought back, you and our parents have always favored her. Since that’s the case, I’ll do as you all wish and make room for you. I hope you won’t disturb me again in the future!"
Alex’s face turned pale. "We found out that those people that night were hired by Ann!"
"She’s been spoiled since childhood, and her reckless stunt nearly killed you. We’ve punished her severely. Please come back with me?"
I let out a cold laugh, pointing to my throat and showing the bandages on my fingers.
"Reckless stunt? Spoiled? Alex, she ruined me like this. Did you think I would let her off the hook?"
"When I’ve recovered fully, I will reclaim everything that belongs to me in public!"
He wanted to say more, but I cut him off with one sentence.
"Brother, ten years ago, when you were swept away by the waves, it was me who saved you."
He was utterly shocked. I lifted my clothes to show him.
The winding scar on my back made him break down in tears.
"So it was you! All along, it was you!"
I lowered my clothes and said coldly, "You mistook your savior, repaid kindness with injustice. Aren’t you afraid of being struck by lightning?"
He tried to say more, but I ruthlessly pushed him out the door.
