Henry gazed at my belly, his voice quivering with disbelief. "You mean… Is this our baby?"
I took his hand and placed it softly on my stomach. "Go on, say hi to the little one, daddy."
Henry's tears came out of nowhere, catching me off guard.

In the next instant, I was wrapped up in his arms again.
"Selena, I'm so sorry for all the pain I've caused you. Can you ever forgive me?"
Liam kept quiet when he learned about Henry and I patching things up. However, the following day, I discovered he had moved out of the apartment.
He left behind a note.
[Congratulations, you've finally got the baby's dad back. I'm heading to Swalden for work. This place belonged to my sister, and now that you're not alone, I can take care of my own stuff with peace of mind.]
He had sketched a cute little smiley face at the bottom of the note.

With a sense of dread, I called Wren.
After a brief silence, Wren tried to sound upbeat.
"Don't worry, my brother's a grown man. He knows what he's up to. Hey, are you really back with Henry? What's the deal with him and Melanie..."
I paused, then spoke firmly. "I'll get the truth out of him. If he's still mixed up with someone else, I won't hesitate to walk away."

I was not the old Selena anymore. I would not foolishly wait around.
Wren's voice warmed with comfort.
"That's what I wanted to hear. You're looking out for yourself now, and that would make my brother really happy."
I was overwhelmed with guilt for Liam, but there was nothing I could do about it then.
After we made up, Henry suggested I move into his fancy new villa. I turned him down, so without a hint of embarrassment, he moved in with me instead.
After Liam left, Wren's tiny apartment became Henry's second home.
He was my shadow, always by my side, until that day when a phone call had him rushing out the door.
Lost in thought, my phone buzzed with Henry's voice.
"Selena, I sent over your favorite pizza. Just wait for me at home. I'll be back before you know it!"
Stepping out of my apartment, hand on my aching back, I was met by an unexpected sight.
It was Melanie. She was clutching her baby, looking like a mess, ready to confront me.
When she saw me, she bent over, the baby in her arms. "Selena, please, I'm begging you to let Henry go. My baby needs a father!"
Her plea was punctuated by the baby's timely cries.
"It's because of you Henry's pushing me away... We're married, and yet, he's ready to leave me for you! I know I've wronged you. He's divorced you so many times for my sake, but this time, I truly want to be with Henry. We have a child now, so can't you just let us be?"
I stood there, the warmth of reuniting with Henry slowly fading.
I tried to speak, my voice a raspy whisper. "I'm carrying Henry's child too..."
"Selena! I'm the one Henry's married to!" Melanie's voice cut through, shattering my daydreams.
I was speechless, my mouth opening and closing without a sound.
"Give me some time to think," I managed to say.
As I turned to walk away, Melanie's biting words followed me.
"Henry's just guilty. I'm the one he loves. Believe it or not, with just one word from me, he'll leave you and come right back to me!"
Without a word, I quietly shut the apartment door behind me.
