The video depicted Shane and Howard sitting in a dimly-lit private room.
Shane slid a bank card to Howard before saying, "There's five million dollars on here. All you have to do is follow my instructions and slander Adrian's name at the celebration dinner. Once you've succeeded, I'll give you another five million dollars.
"Remember, you have to say he stole your hard work and had you sent to jail."
The audio was extremely clear, and Shane's face had been enlarged so much that every pore could be seen. The scheming look in his eyes had nowhere to hide.
Immediately, Shane's face went deathly pale.
"T-This is fake!" he yelled hysterically.
"A fake?" I laughed. "Mr. Johnson, you seem to have forgotten that I work in this industry. Did you think that I wouldn't plant spies by your side when you had someone secretly take photos of me?"
Following that, a second video began playing on the screen.
This time, the focus was Selena. She was in a coffee shop, a woman sitting across from her.
"As long as you help me spread the rumor online that Adrian stole that software, I can ensure you become the brand ambassador for Sander Group's next season."
Despite her gentle voice, her words were malicious.
These two videos landed like a resounding smack across their faces. The entire venue was in an uproar.
"So, they were actually framing him for something he didn't do!"
"These two sure are utterly vile!"
Shane and Selena thoroughly panicked and attempted to flee the scene with their bodyguards' protection.
"Hey, no need to leave in such a hurry!" I called out from behind them. To them, I must have sounded like a demon from hell. "The show's not over yet."
Not a hint of warmth remained in my eyes as I looked at Selena.
"Haven't you always been curious about the rose Shane tattooed on your lower abdomen three years ago?"
A shudder went through Selena's body.
"Haven't you always thought that was proof of his love for you?"
I pressed the last button on the remote control, and a high-definition photo of a black rose tattoo appeared on the screen.
Beside it was another photo—the logo Shane's company had started out with.
The two roses were almost exactly the same, save for some minor details.
"Selena Sander, that isn't some sort of love imprint. It's his company's logo, a brand showing his possession over you. From the beginning, he's never treated you like an equal or a lover. You're nothing but an object to him, a personal asset."
Selena stared at the screen, utterly dumbfounded. Her body swayed as though she were about to collapse to the ground at any moment. Her hands flew up to clutch at her lower abdomen while her face twisted into a look of sheer despair.
All around her, the crowd's mocking laughter and disdainful chatter threatened to drown her.
Still, I felt absolutely nothing as I watched her.
Slowly approaching her, I said to her in a voice only the two of us could hear, "You're free now. Take your shame with you and get the fuck out of my world."
With that said, I turned my back to her and returned to the stage. While everyone watched, I calmly announced the news about ATech's success in securing funding.
Thunderous applause rang out in response to my announcement.
As for the despicable pair who once trampled me underfoot, they fled in utter disgrace, humiliated and scorned. They quickly became the laughingstock of the entire city.
Later on, I heard that Shane's company officially went bankrupt while he was investigated for tax evasion and corporate fraud.
Sander Group was caught up in the mess, and their stock prices plummeted. Samuel was so infuriated about it that he had a stroke.
As for Selena, she was disowned by her family, truly becoming all alone in the world. I never saw her again.
Sunlight streamed in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, bathing my office in a warm glow.
Three years of bitterness finally ended on a sweet note.
I had finally won back my life and the chance to start anew.
