~Emily~

I woke up to a bright morning. The morning had a different feel than normal.

There was a warm breeze in the air, urging me to cover myself with the blanket and sleep more.

But as I shut my eyes yet again, a stream of thoughts came rushing back to my mind. The conversation I had last night with Zayne became clearer in my mind.

Zayne wants me to go with him to the sacred temple.

To retrieve the sword to kill Vadka.

I really hope the sword is as powerful as mom says, otherwise Zayne might not make it through Vadka.

'Oh shit!" I cursed out loud taking a small glance at my clock.

It read 9 am. I was supposed to be at the grounds an hour ago.

. I got dressed into my light training outfit and walked to the training grounds, my steps quickened.

I'm sure Rowan will be standing there waiting for me

He will cross his arms, furrowed his brows and give him that stern look of his.

Running from my room, I finally reached Zayne's personal training ground.

I spotted Rowan from a distance, just where I thought he would be, at the centre of the field.

Walking up towards him, I was surprised to see him laughing a bit. His face was kind and welcoming.

He didn't seem angry in the slightest.

Was this level above anger, maybe? He's probably going to vent all his anger in training me.

'I'm sorry I came late. I just overslept and lost track of time."

'You shouldn't apologise to me. I'm not the one training you today"

Rowan said.

'What, then who is?" I was deeply confused by Rowan's words.

'Him"

Rowan pointed in the direction behind me. I quickly turned my head around to see who my new teacher was.

Zayne!

I had a surge of mixed feelings in sight of Zayne. I was a bit elated. I get to spend time with him again, but on the other hand I'm a bit annoyed that he was trying to spend time with me without actually apologising.

'What are you doing here?" I asked him in a stern voice as he walked up to me.

'Relax, I'm just here to train you and nothing more.

In three days time you will be going with me to the temple so I need you to be in top shape" Zayne said in a firm voice.

I knew deep down even if he won't admit it that he's just here to spend time with me. After all he might be a stronger warrior than Rowan, Rowan is a better teacher.

But spending time with Zayne won't be a bad idea as well.

I've really missed him in my life.

'Fine. So, what are we doing today" l asked Zayne curiously.

Zayen then gave a long glance at Rowan. His lips curled up into a mysterious smile. And Rowan smiled back at him.

What are they up to now? I really think it's something easy for me.

'Why are you guys smiling? And you haven't answered me. What are we doing?" I ranted in a loud voice. I was fed up with the silent treatment.

'Based on the numerous training we've conducted, me and Rowan have concluded that your best weapon is an arrow by far. So therefore we will be testing you on how to use it even better"

Zayne finished speaking, I was relieved I had an idea of what I was going to do. Use a bow and an arrow.

'Rowan will get a sharper blade for the arrow. A blade that easily penetrates through any skin, be it vampire or werewolf.

But for now you will only use the ordinary arrows. These ones are only capable of killing humans"

Rowan walked away from the fields, with a few arrows in his hand.

Zayne walked to me and gave him a few arrows and a bow.

'Today, we will practise your accuracy. A little secret to know when using arrows to kill us is that only a direct shot to the head can kill us instantly.

Well not me in particular, but other Lycans and vampires.

So today you will take a shot at me. Try to aim for my head if you can"

Shoot him! Is Zayn mad?

'I can't shoot you. Why should I?"I was a bit confused when he instructed me to shoot him.

'Channel all the rage who might have for me into your aim and let go of the arrow. Remember this arrow can't kill or hurt me so don't worry"

Does he think I'm angry at him? Is that why he wants me to take a shot at him?

Fine! If he wants me to, then I will.

I positioned my arrow between the both sides of the bow.

Closing an eye for better aim, I gently pulled back the bow string giving the arrow better momentum, I then let go.

The arrow moved straight and precisely and with venom but unfortunately only hit Zayne on his chest.

'No!" I groaned out in frustration.

'It's okay, it's just your first try, you'll get it. Remember to channel all that frustration into your shot"

Zayne's assuring words gave me a light confidence boost.

He might keep secrets from me and lie to my face, but he has a real sense of humour for a king. One of the many reasons I like him.

I returned to my initial position and carefully placed my arrow ready for my second shot.

Releasing the arrow once again to my frustration it only hit Zayne in a region between his chest and neck.

'Ahh…

What is wrong with me!" Once again my voice is evidence of my frustration.

'Come on, try again! You'll get it" Zayne wasn't worried by my missed shots not in the slightest.

'What if I can't" I said, my tone very pale and dull, as I lowered in shame.

I lost faith in my abilities.

Zayne left the spot he was standing and walked up to me.

'Hey Emily. You won't just give up after two shots. I know you. When you put your mind into something, you can never leave it unfinished.

You can't give up"

Zayne reassured me again, as I listened carefully. Zayne is right, I can't give up.

I never have and will never leave a stone unturned.

I raised my head, my body uplifted. 'I'm ready"

I said my voice was firm and confident.

Zayne returned back to the spot where he was.

I held my bow tightly and positioned the arrow once more in between the bow.

And with a gentle release of my string, the arrow flew with great acceleration and hit Zayne straight at his forehead.

'Yes!!" I threw my bow in the air elated. Zayne didn't move an inch or make any painful reflexes.

I couldn't care any less, I was just so happy I got it.

'Congratulations Emily. You got the shot right.

But now we need to do it over and over again till it's perfected"

I heard Zayne's loud voice from the other side of the field.

So he couldn't celebrate this one with me. Can he ever be impressed with me even for once.

But he's right, I need to keep on practising till it is perfected.

One shot out of three isn't enough odds to go to the temple with.

We carried on and practised for several hours non stop.

My accuracy was massively improving. I got more on target than I missed.

'Emily, you're really improving in this. I have to say I'm really impressed"

Finally he said it. Not that I needed his verdict though.

'Thank you. I Learned from a good teacher" I said. My words weren't just to reciprocate his compliment, I really meant it.

If Zayne didn't push me more, I might have felt comfortable where I once was.

'Hey guys!!" a loud distant voice reached my ears.

I turned my head in the direction it came from.

I was a bit amused seeing Rowan running so vigorously towards us, like his life was in danger.

'I've got the perfect blade!" Rowan said, breathing very heavily.

He bent his body over trying to catch his breath a little.

'So where is it?" Zayne asked impatiently. He didn't have time to watch Rowan bend over in front of him.

Rowan stood up right and pulled out an arrow and handed it to me, gently placing it on my palms.

It looked just like any other arrow and so I thought, until I glanced at the tip of the arrow.

Instead of the light metal at the tip of an ordinary arrow, its tip was made with thick metal, well pointed and curved at its edges.

Just merely brushing my finger across the tip made a small piercing on my finger, and soon a light pool of blood escaped from it.

'So, Rowan. This metal can kill a werewolf and a vampire instantly?"

Zayne asked Rowan again.

'Absolutely, we can give it a run if you like," Rowan suggested.

'Fine, get the rogue prisoner" Zayne ordered Rowan and he left at once.

Rogue prisoner?

I could only wonder why Zayne would summon a prisoner.

Me and Zayne took a seat on two rocks just by the fields. There was an uncomfortable silence between us.

A feeling of wanting to say something but lacking the course to speak to the other.

Soon, a guard came into our sight, sparing us further embarrassment. He grabbed another lycan by the arm and dragged him in our direction.

His clothes were torn in pieces, and barely holding together.

They were dirty, his hair unkempt, his nails hideous.

He must be the prisoner.

A distance behind them was Rowan walking as quickly as he could to keep up.

Reaching the field, the guard forcefully threw the Lycan to the floor.

His face became covered in sand. My heart was moved a little by the sight of such maltreatment.

Even though he may deserve it, I couldn't help but pity him.

His hands were cuffed, his legs seemed too weak to even run. He just knelt on the floor and looked about with a remorseful look.

Zayne walked up to him and grabbed him by the collar of his ragged cloth. Raising him up from the floor, his legs left the ground.

.

'Emily you will test your new arrow on him"

What? Is Zayne kidding right?

'Wait a moment, I can't murder Lycan like that. He's helpless"

I protested, my big heart won't let me.

' Emily, you can't pity a rogue. He deserves death. Your only doing him a favour by ending his life peacefully"

Zayne said in a cold voice.

I didn't think Zayne had this side of him. I guess everyone needs to.

'But I can't, Rowan can kill him or anyone else"

I stood my ground and refused to kill the rogue.

0

'Emily, you're going with me to the temple. You need to have that ruthless side in you. If you mercy someone, you do it at your own detriment"

What Zayn said was correct, I need to be ruthless to survive. But this Lycan here is helpless, he is not a threat.

'Emily, just do it. He deserves every bit of it for attacking a young Lycan girl, and almost killing her.

Imagine if it was Steph, he attacked what will you do?"

Rowan walked up to me and talked to me in his gentle and calm voice.

'I'll murder him"

I grabbed my bow from the floor and positioned it with an arrow with a hard metal tip between the bow.

Taking the string back and releasing the arrow to the sky.

With great force, it flew through the sky. Time seemed to slow down for a moment, as I watched in anticipation.

The arrow shot at him straight to his eye and into his sockets.

The rogue dropped dead instantly.

'Congrats Emily!"

'You did it!"

My mood wasn't really merry. Although I got the shot my heart was still heavy.
