~Zayne~

'Ahhhh!!"

My scream only got louder by each passing second.

I could feel something trying to desperately escape from my body. Vadka was about to take away my soul.

'Argghhh!!!!!"

My scream in agony was so loud. The pain I was going through was even much worse.

If I don't do anything now, I could die in the next minute.

Battling against Vadka's pull, I fought to pull up my hands from the ground.

I gritted my teeth against the other.

And with every power I could muster. I landed a powerful punch to Vadka's gut.

His guard was down, and so the impact was much worse.

The punch took him a few steps back, dropping flat on the floor.

This was my chance!!

But, unfortunately for me, I was too weak to even take advantage of it.

We both managed to get on our feet. I was literally standing on wobbly legs.

I took a short moment to glance around.

The air was thick with the scent of blood and decay, and the ground was slick with the remnants of battle. On one side stood me, King Zayne , the lycan ruler,my massive form draped in tattered furs, my sharp teeth glinting in the night. On the other hand, King Vadka, the vampire king, stood tall and regal, his skin deathly pale, his crimson eyes glowing with an inhuman hunger.

'You were never a challenge for me, Zayne. I could have ended this a while back if I wanted to.

But now it's time!" Vadka said in a murderous tone.

And in the next second Vakda appeared in front of me, and grabbed me by my shirt. And with his other hand, he began raining down punches on my face in anger.

Vakda was like a mad man possessed. And with each punch, the pain only became worse and worse.

Bruises and wounds appeared on my face. Blood dripped down from it.

But, Vadka was relenting in the slightest.

And then he finally released his hold. As I dropped lifeless to the hard ground.

"You are nothing," Vadka hissed, his voice like ice scraping against stone. "A beast pretending to rule. This is your end."

My vision blurred with pain. His knees buckled, and he fell to the ground, the weight of defeat heavy upon him. Vadka towered over me, a cruel smile curling on his lips. muscles ached, and my body screamed for rest.

But then, a single thought pierced the haze of agony: I cannot fall. I cannot die here.

Just then I thought of her—the woman who was my heart, Emily.

Her eyes, the fire that had first sparked the man beneath the beast.

I could vividly remember the innocent look she had when I entered the clinic a few hours back.

Such an innocent girl doesn't deserve to serve as a slave to anyone, especially not Vadka.

I thought of my kingdom, the people who depended on him.

The tears in the eyes of my people when I was about to leave.

The blood that had been spilled, the promises I made. My people were waiting for me. She was waiting for me. I couldn't let this end. Not here, not like this.

‘A curse can also serve as a blessing in disguise'

A voice whispered to my ears, those very familiar words.

A primal growl erupted from my chest, louder and deeper than any sound I had ever made. My body, broken and battered, suddenly surged with energy. My wounds began to knit together, my strength returning, but it was not the strength of a mere man—or even a lycan. This was something far darker, far more ancient.

Strength of a beast.

With a howl that shook the very earth beneath them, I rose to my feet. My eyes, once a deep amber, now blazed with an unnatural, glowing silver light. My claws grew longer, sharper, and my body expanded, muscles bulging and shifting beneath my fur. I towered over Vadka, an embodiment of rage and determination, my body transforming into something monstrous—more beast than man, a creature born from the very forces of nature itself.

Vadka was initially taken back, but soon got a grip of himself.

This wasn't the first time he faced me in this beastly form.

My loud roar shattered the stillness of the night as I lunged forward, faster than Vadka could react. And in the next moment, my large claws slashed through the air, and the vampire king barely had time to raise his arm to defend himself.

The impact sent him flying backward, crashing into a wall with a sickening crack. Blood seeped from the deep cuts on his chest, his elegant form now showing the first signs of wear.

"You will not take my kingdom," I growled in anger , my voice now a deep, guttural growl that vibrated through the earth. I lunged again. With every strike, he sent Vadka reeling, ny claws slashing through the vampire's defenses. The battle had shifted, and now it was Zayne who found himself on the defensive, struggling to keep up with the ferocity and rage of the beast before him.

The vampire king, with his centuries of power, retaliated with vampiric speed, his fangs gleaming as he attempted to strike my throat. But I was faster now, more ruthless.

With a roar, I slammed Vadka into the ground, the force of the impact sending a shockwave through the forest.

The vampire king's form buckled beneath my insane lycan strength, my body groaning under the pressure.

I charged at him yet again, before he could get a grip of himself.

But with his incredible speed, he managed to maneuver away from my large figure as I appeared behind him.

His speed was still greater than mine, so he beat me to the strike.

And in the next second, I felt a sharp pain appear behind my knee.

'Argh!!! '

I let out a groan in pain.

The strike took me down to just a single knee.

'NO matter what you turn yourself into, Zayne you will always be a weak king in my eyes."

While he was trash talking me. I remained very conscious, and alert.

And once, he let his guard down for a second.

I charged at him with insane speed, my large claws well extended, I gave him a heavy swipe dropping him down to the floor in an instant.

My claws, now like jagged daggers, hovered just above Vadka's chest, poised to end it all. But then I paused, my eyes burning with a fire far greater than bloodlust.

I felt a presence behind me.

But before I could react, I found myself rolling on the floor.

A large punch to the back of my skull, took me off.

But wait! That couldn't possibly be Vakda. He was just in front of me.

'You think I'm a fool like you, Zayne." I heard Vadka's distant mocks.

My vision was still blurry, but I could tell a different figure other than Vadka was in front of me.

'Hello Zayne. We will meet again." I heard his stern yet familiar voice.

Luca!!

Vakda, that little bitch.

Luca stood in front of me. His eyes burning with intent to kill me.

He dropped down to a knee, his body closer to mine.

He then wrapped his large hands around my neck, pressing it as hard as he could.

I was slowly losing air and choking.

'Leave him Luca! He's mine to kill."

Vadka's voice rang through the empty fields.

Luca reluctantly stepped back, I could see the displeasure in his eyes.

And then, the larger figure of Vadka, walked up to my fallen body.

I couldn't even move to defend myself. My body felt numb and I was helpless.

'Vakda you dirty piece of trash. You said one on one pit fight!"

I got in Vadka's face, my voice laced with disgust.

'Zayne, and who's here to check. There are no rules, so you would have been smarter.

Maybe in another life."

Vadka said with a broad smile on his face, and chuckled after he finished.

Vadka gently moved his hand and placed it on my forehead, ready to suck my soul out.

I struggled as best I could but, my body won't let me.

And then suddenly, I felt the jolt from inside me.

A force began pushing to leave, my eyes turned blank white.

'Argh!!!"

I heard a moan in pain and suddenly everything stopped.

My vision soon returned.

But,I was in great disbelief and the scene in front of me.

I couldn't believe my eyes.

Luca was standing over a fallen Vadka. He turned on Vadka?

'Zayne, take this as thank you." Luca turned his attention to me.

'For what?" I asked, I couldn't still wrap my head around what I was seeing.

'For sparing my life, and Emily too.

He's all yours!"

Luca pointed to the fallen figure of Vakda.

'Luca, you're a bitch!! You little traitor. How dare you turn on me!!"

Vakda kept yelling, while down on the floor.

I watched as Luca walked slowly away until he disappeared into darkness.

I managed to get up on my foot, I then walked up to the fallen Vakda.

'Finish it. You pathetic king." Even now, Vakda was as arrogant as ever.

I looked down at him with bloodlust in my eyes, like I've never felt before.

For me, this was not just a fight for survival—it was for something far more precious. It was for love, for the promise to return home, for the kingdom that still had hope as long as their king still stood.

Those thousands of people waiting outside the gates for me to return.

"I fight for them," I whispered, my voice low, fierce, and unwavering. "For me. For my people. And for Emily. "

With that, I struck, my claws piercing through the Vadka's chest with a final, thunderous roar.

'Argh!!!" I groaned out loudly in pain.

His body went limp, his once-glowing eyes flickering before they faded into the darkness. The vampire king was no more.

I stood above the fallen vampire , breathing heavily, my chest heaving as I gazed out into the clearing. The moonlight bathed me in its glow, but it was no longer a cold, distant light. Now, it felt like a promise—a promise to return, to rebuild, and to reign.

I had become the beast I needed to be, but I was still their king. And with the blood of my enemies spilled, I knew I would fight, no matter the cost, for my love, for my kingdom, and for the future I had yet to claim.

And as I basked in the silence. The words of Maya now finally made sense to me.

‘A curse can be blessing in disguise'

And today, my long regretted curse is the reason I'm alive to see the new day.

Soon, the sun began to rise from the east. The skies are painted in orange and purple.

And then soon I returned from my beast form into a normal lycan.

I wore the extra clothes I stored in my bag before I was ready to head back.

I was taking in the magnitude of the moment. Still wondering how I defeated the greatest being in the universe, something my fathers and forefathers had failed to do.

And then from far ahead, I spotted the distant figure of a horse approaching me.

Getting closer, my guess was confirmed.

Rowan!!

My brother I wished I had.

I could see his expression on sight. Hsi brows raised in disbelief.

And then, his face was a picture of pure joy and relief.

'Zayne, I knew it!!" he jumped down from the horse and gave him a warm hug.

'I never doubted it."

'Let's get back, I can't wait for them to see me."

And I got on the horse, seated behind him. And then, together we rode over the hills and soon disappeared into the sun.
