~Emily~
Zayne just left the clinic after I gave him a few words of advice.
But I couldn't just shake off the restless feeling I had.
I spent most of the day staring out the window in the room I was admitted to.
Soon, it was night. Outside was pure darkness, and the cold breeze escaped through the opened window.
I shut the window and climbed the bed to sleep.
But unfortunately, the sleep won't come. I just stared up at the ceiling for most of the night. Thinking about Zayne.
Who knows what's going on with him, right now?
For now, I'm useless to him. Especially the fact that I'm stuck here.
The best I could do was pray he returns at dawn to his kingdom.
'What? Who's entering the clinic at this ungodly time?
I heard a faint creaking noise from the clinic's main entrance.
Maybe, it's another nurse late for the night shift. I really didn't bother myself too much.
But, suddenly I began hearing faint footsteps slowing approaching my room.
My heart began racing, my eyes well widened and alert.
They stopped in front of my room, and just then, it was as if time stood still.
I was anxiously praying he wouldn't open the curtains.
But, unfortunately, with a heavy swing of his hands, the curtains were well opened and a figure in a dark hoodie, and black trousers held a knife.
'Argh!!!" I didn't hesitate to scream as loud as possible. My voice thundered through the whole clinic.
The nurses at night shift must have heard the noise and are rushing here.
The figure took a few steps back, and after contemplating deeply, he decided to make a run for it.
I could finally breathe a huge sigh of relief. I was still shivering to myself.
Shortly, a couple of nurses finally reached my room, their breath heavy.
'What is it?" One of them asked, very concerned.
'A guy in a black hoodie and trousers, came to murder me in my room."
I said, my voice still trembling in fear.
'Okay, it's okay now, whoever it was is gone now."
The nurse tried to calm me down. I wasn't even sure if they believed me.
The two nurses decided to take a rest in the rooms either side of me, just in case he returns.
But, despite this, I still struggled to sleep that night.
As if the worry for Zayne wasn't enough, now I have to worry for my own life.
Soon, it was morning. The sun was bright and shone down on the castle.
. The news of last night's intended murder, had spread to other workers at the clinic.
They decided to take extra caution, and refused me to leave the clinic, until I was signed off by someone.
After hours of tense waiting. I was very eager to know about Zayne's situation.
Was he back? I hope so.
And if he is, can't he come over to visit me?
I tired myself out, and decided to take a seat on a wooden chair next to the bed.
But just then, a figure walked into my room. He rode with a certain elegance and charm.
'Hey!"
He said in a soft tone, as he turned in my direction.
'Zayne!!!"
Seeing Zayne, my mood completely transformed.
I rushed over to him and gave him a tight hug.
'I knew you could take him down. You just needed to believe it too." I whispered to his ears.
Our hug lasted for almost two minutes.
'Emily, what happened last night?", Zayne asked as I pulled away from the hug.
My mood immediately darkened, my face became pale.
'Zayne, someone tried to kill me!!" I said, her voice laced with fear.
'Okay, calm down Emily and tell me everything that happened last night.
Zayne spoke in a calm and still voice trying to ease Emily's nerves.
After taking a moment to calm myself down a little, I decided to tell Zayne everything that happened last night.
From the restless nights, to the creepy footsteps and the appearance of the man in a hoodie and his disappearance.
Zayne's mood changed after he finished telling me.
His anger was stirred up.
'That's unforgivable. I'll get the detectives to work, and once he's found, then I swear I will eat him in an instant."
Zayne rose up to leave, he wasn't wasting any time at all.
'Emily, once I get you discharged, you'll come and sleep with me in my room!"
What?
Zayne's words left me stunned for a while. Me? Sleeping in the same room with the Lycan king?
Zayne stepped out of the clinic to handle the procedures of signing me out.
And after a short while, he returned to the room.
'Okay, Emily are you ready?"
. A feeling of excitement surged through my veins.
Finally I was leaving this room. It was as if I wasted three days of my life, stuck in the four corners of the walls of the room.
Now, I can breathe and enjoy my freedom.
I rode up from the wooden chair at once and followed Zayne behind.
Leaving the clinic, at long last.
I could breath the fresh air, not tainted with sterilizers from the clinic.
'Drop by your room and pack your things up and to my room."
Zayne said before splitting up. He went in the direction of his room, and I went to the maid quarters.
I really didn't have much to pack. Just a few clothes. My shoes, sheets and a few other things.
I was a bit reluctant to go to Zayne's room. I couldn't just imagine sleeping with a king, from my position as a mermaid.
What would people now think of me?
After a while battling with my thoughts and consciousness, I decided to take the brave step and walk to his room, for the sake of my safety and peace of mind.
I could feel the piercing eyes of other people at the castle, fixed on me as I walked towards Zayne's room.
The door was slightly opened, so I decided to step in.
I saw Zayne scrambling to get the room fixed as quickly as possible.
'Hey"
I said softly, causing him to stop abruptly.
'Welcome Emily, to my room."
He walked over to me and took my bags to an inner room.
I began to wander around his room, looking at pics of Maya on his wall, and other historic artifacts.
I was amazed by the large number of these artifacts he has.
'Are you hungry, Zayne? Let me get you dinner."
I asked to get Zayne some dinner, and he agreed with a slight nod.
I left his room at once. The feel of the night was very chilly.
I hurried to the kitchen, and to my surprise it was very scanty.
There were barely any maids there. My eyes turned to a couple of women, whispering to themselves at a corner.
Crystal and Reta!
'What could they be up to?
'Good day ladies!"
I walked up to them, no fear whatsoever.
'Emily, it's been a while. Flora sends
her greetings…"
Reta's next words ticked me off, stirring up my inner rage.
I was able to calm myself down a bit and not act out in front of everyone.
'I'll leave you ladies to it. ' I turned to leave when I heard Reta's next words.
'Very soon Emily, you'll be exposed for who you really are!"
I was a bit stunned, but her words. What does she mean by that?
I shook off the thoughts in my head, grabbing the tray of food, and I left the kitchen.
But, I couldn't help but think about what Reta meant.
‘I'll be exposed for what I really am?'
Maybe she's just trying to get in my head, that's all!
Afterall I'm sure I didn't do anything.
I returned to Zayne's room and dropped Zayne's tray on his stool, and crashed on the bed immediately.
Although my body is well recovered, it still needs a few more days before it could withstand longer walks.
And soon, I was carried away by the night.
My eyes fluttered open to a bright new day. The sun is casting into Zayne's room.
I turned over to the other side of the bed, no Zayne….
Is he already up?
KNOCK
KNOCK
A loud knock appeared on Zayne's door. I debated when to open it or not, after all, I really don't know who it might be.
But after the knock persisted, and Zayne refused to come, I decided to open it.
I walked up to the door, and opened it gently, causing a creaking noise.
'Rowan!"
I said out loud, my voice tinged with excitement.
I barely saw him, since the injury to me over three days ago.
'Nice to see you Emily!" Rowan leaned over to me, to give me a light hug.
'Is Zayne here?" Rowan asked, taking a glance inside the room.
'Yeah he's in another room, should I call him?"
I turned to enter, when Rowan held me back.
'You know what leaves it? Just tell him that Reta and Luther are calling both of you to the throne room, they say it's urgent, but I know something is up, so be vigilant."
Rowan finished speaking and left.
He was right about something, something isn't right.
Why would Reta and Luther call not only Zayne, but me of all people.. to the throne room?
I couldn't help but think, it had something to do with what Reta told me last night.
But what could she possibly have up her sleeves?
'Who was at the door?" Zayne walked out from the bathroom, wrapped in his white towel.
I was left in awe, seeing Zayne's physique. His biceps were well buffed, his chest was something I could only imagine.
'Emily?"
Zayne snapped me out and back to reality.
'...Rowan, he said that Reta and Luther, summoned us to the throne room."
I said my voice was laced with worry.
Zayne's expression quickly changed. His face is a picture of concern.
He was well aware Luther and Reta always have evil motives.
'Why?" Zayne very cautiously.
'I'm not sure, but I know something is up."
'Okay, I'll get dressed, you wait here for me." Zayne said before turning back and walking back to his changing room.
I patiently waited, for about fifteen minutes before Zayne came out from his changing room.
And together, we walked to the throne room. This is a room in the castle, I haven't really seen much, just a few glances.
It was by far the largest room in the castle. Walking through the red carpet, I couldn't help but stare at the walls or the throne.
They were covered with large paintings of the royal families over the years.
We walked to the front of the room, where three thrones were carefully set.
The largest throne, set in the middle, I could guess was for the king, Zayne.
The other to the left, which had flowering textures l, I guessed was for the queen, formerly Maya and the one to the right, was maybe for the prince, Luther.
'Brother!!!" a stern voice called out from behind us. The mere tone of his voice twitched my heart.
Luther!
He and Reta walked elegantly into the throne room.
Zayne gently sat on his throne, and then Luther sat on his.
Myself and Reta stayed down humbly on the red carpet.
Rowan and a few more top delegates were just a few steps behind us.
'So, Reta what's the matter?" Zayne asked impatiently.
'Your majesty, I've come bearing big news. With me here, is an imposter of the highest order!!"
Reta turned to me, as she heaped accusations. Her stern words pierced into my heart.
'She is the daughter of the Riverdiew Chief that murdered Maya!!
Something she knew but didn't tell anyone, not even Zayne!"
Loud gasps escaped from the delegates in the room.
Zayne himself was taken back a bit, in Reta's words.
'Emily? Is this true?" Zayne asked me.
'Yes."
