'Why are you so convinced that I am a heart broken cry baby?"
Charlotte was now exasperated by her guest who was trying to be personal with her. After all, there is some privacy entitled for everyone and Vampires, they are known to keep their secrets till death. This is the reason behind their secure way to survive long term.
'I have a hypothesis to support my theory."
Daniel was super energetic at once. He placed his fork back in the plate as his competitive nature kicked in for a face-off,
'First, you are single, no girl friend or boy friend. Secondly, you don't have any male friends. No one ever saw you in any official banquet with your Uncle or friends. This is the severe case of social anxiety and heart break, Star. You are at verge of boycotting all men."
Charlotte was wide eyed at with all his research,
'Have someone ever told you that you are quite meddlesome?"
'Oh! That comes with my job package. It's free."
He spoke with his eyes twinkling and face beaming with light. Charlotte was fidgeting with her gown, hardly swallowing big lumps in her throat,
'I broke up with Sam, my high school boyfriend one year ago."
Involuntarily, she kept a hand on her purse, clutching it firmly.
"We were classmates from fifth grade, he left me for his summer love."
'It must be upsetting for you."
'Yup, I left my city and came here for a new start but my insomnia got worse. I mean I wasn't a heavy sleeper before but now I can not sleep at all."
She was revolving her fork in the plate, trying to focus on her food.
'You did great, Star. Changing your environment is indeed a good beginning.."
His supportive kind voice soften her heart, which she was hardening from many years to avoid any mishap.
'I am single because I don't want to get attached something that is not destined to be mine, again."
'You are just afraid, that is completely normal. Let me tell you my story. I was in a relationship with a girl, you can call her amber, in my medical college. We both were of middle class, so I was pretty sure that we will stay together till death. Our families also grew closer due to our relationship but in the last year of our degree, she started ghosting me. I didn't notice at first but then I saw her in a shopping mall with her rich cousin, that was the end of our story. She chose him who can give her a secure future and I moved on. She got married last month. I was invited to her marriage too."
Charlotte's eyes popped out as she couldn't believe that the all chill Dr. Daniel was in same dilemma like her. Her stomach did a black flip and she looked away,
'I am sorry that you have to endure all this."
Then she placed her hands on the table, slightly leaning forward,
'Did you attend her wedding?"
Daniel's cheeks were on fire. He scratched his neck with his index finger,
'I did. I gifted her the ring I bought for her and ended that chapter life. Trust me, I felt good after ending it on a good note."
Rest of the dinner, Charlotte pondered over her behavior as how she escaped with out informing Alpha Eric. It would be better if she end her relationship like Daniel, leaving no regrets behind.
Daniel didn't ask any more questions, instead he shared his funny work experiences which lightened up the atmosphere.
Dinner concluded with a refreshing cocktail, Charlotte paid and came out to leave. She was confused to see only one car in the parking area as driver also disappeared with the second one. She opened her purse to search for her cellphone but Daniel snatched it,
'I have sent them back. Come with me, I have to show you something."
Charlotte had literally steam coming out of her ears but she shut her mouth close (as Daniel was her guest) and they set towards an unknown destination. Daniel was driving silently, his aura was somewhat mysterious, ringing bells in her mind.
Obviously, she knew him more than three months and he helped them a lot but driving on a deserted highway after dark easily made things suspicious.
'Where are we going?"
Daniel turned towards her. His lips curled up with his soft eyes having a psychopathic shine, Charlotte thought in her heart that Daniel was resembling to a human trafficker right now.
'It's a surprise. Rest assured, I am not a human trafficker."
He joked and averted his attention to his driving, leaving her in bewilderment. Charlotte was aghast that he read her mind so perfectly. Her tension grew deeper as they left the hustling city behind and moved towards a cliff area in outskirts.
'We are here."
After five minutes drive, Daniel parked the car at the side of dusty path and invited her out. Sky was clear with stars but freezing breeze was bone chilling. Charlotte who had no effect of cold weather, still pretended to cover herself with her thick coat.
'It's so cold out here, do you want to catch cold? Or you are planning to share the ventilator for pneumonia?"
