Early in the morning, Charlotte woke up abruptly with a loud bang on the floor, her heart thumped at the possibility of something bad.
'Eric?"
She stretched her arms and searched for her beloved beside her, the empty bed confirmed her worst fear. Collecting every single speck of strength to get up, she walked out of the room by supporting her limp body against the walls.
'Eric!"
This name came out as a shriek, as the scene before her was a mini world-war three. Alpha was standing in the mess of different ingredients, milk boiling on the stove was burning the counter.
Bubbling water and black coal like thing in the frying pan gave her a rough idea of the premises.
"Are you serious?"
Eric hurriedly came forward and picked her up.
'Why did you come out, little one? You should have called me."
'Like you were waiting for my call."
Charlotte adjusted herself in his arms and asked him to take her to the kitchen.
'What is this?"
A full pot of chilly was splashed on the floor, adorning cabinets and walls. Eric hopped over the cleaning staff and switched off the stove at her instructions.
'I was trying to cook for you."
'Who eats this much fried food in the breakfast, Eric? Haven't you noticed that I prefer black coffee in the morning?"
Alpha listened to her intently, then raised his voice.
'Your sleeping schedule has changed, little one. You sleep until lunch now. So I was preparing three-course meal for you."
'Yes, I can see that."
Burnt sausages, half cooked spaghetti, watery white sauce and wasted cooked chilly were displaying his tireless efforts.
'Who wants breakfast?"
King Casper materialized out of thin air, with a box of chocolate croissants in his hands.
'You are not welcomed here. Get out."
Eric growled angrily, his nostrils flared at Casper's untimely presence.
'Don't forget that my head witch lives with you, Alpha. So, technically, I am also invited to your little breakfast party."
Charlotte placed her hand on grumpy Alpha's cheek and kissed him.
'You must be hungry after all this hard work. Let's eat. Casper is our guest. He means no harm."
Casper raised his brows with a challenging grin and then joined them on the dinning table.
Charlotte's mouth watered at the aroma of fresh pastry, Ramla replaced it with a bowl of porridge.
'This is not fair."
She pouted at this cruelty, but Ramla was persistent.
'You need light food, Luna. The road to complete recovery is long yet demanding. Your patience and cooperation is necessary."
Casper slipped the plate towards Alpha and joked.
'I have brought this breakfast for my new friend Alpha Eric. You should follow your diet chart."
'I am not your friend."
Savoring the bite of crispy sweetness, Eric instantly corrected his statement.
'I will..."
Casper's sentence was cut off by Beta Noah's urgency.
'Alpha, it's urgent. Our Pack is under attack."
Charlotte's heart sank at this bad news, Eric clutched her to his chest first and then growled at him.
'You can mind-link me, Noah. Why did you come here?"
Noah bowed his head and informed him about the situation. That information raced Eric's heart too.
'We need to leave now."
Alpha shifted Charlotte on the chair and stood up.
'The condition is not in our favor, little one. I have to take part in the battle."
Charlotte nodded and held his hand.
'It's OK. You can go, I will take care of myself."
'But you have a problem here, Alpha."
Casper sipped his coffee and pointed out.
'Your Pack is simply sixteen to seventeen hours away. According to my judgement, you are needed there right now."
He eyed to Ramla, she bowed her head in response.
'I will open a magical portal for both of you. Please step in."
Eric kissed Charlotte and turned to Casper before walking in through that milky white door.
'You are still not my friend."
...
As Charlotte was tensed after Eric's departure, Casper decided to stay at her house.
'This is not the first time Alpha has gone to the battle. My father lord's journal is filled with his successful expeditions."
He cracked jokes about Eric's previous victories to cheer her up.
'Once my father sired two hundred vampires to cage Alpha's wolf, guess what? They were sent back in a mini truck, all arranged in different body parts."
Then they discussed about their business deal and signed it too, an invisible burden was lifted away from Charlotte's shoulder.
'I never regretted trusting you, Casper. You stayed with me and supported me in my every decision.
This kind of friendship is the bonding I have always dreamed of. You are truly a blessing."
…
The next morning, Charlotte was getting restless to see Eric, her heart drawing her towards him. Despite all the distance, she was feeling his worry, the wish to comfort him was overpowering her mind.
King Casper observed the change in her expressions, guessing her inner conflict.
'Feeling afraid for your soulmate's security is natural, Star. Don't fight with it. Just give him a call, Alpha will be happy to listen to your voice."
Charlotte became excited and picked up her mobile phone to contact Eric, then something changed her plan.
'Eric must be busy with the Pack's affairs. My call can be a distraction in his work. I know he is fretting over my health, this is risky."
She sighed and abandoned her phone, a team of the office workers came inside.
'These matters are demanding your instant attention, Your Majesty."
King Casper's attempt to hide his face behind the tea cup failed terribly, he plastered a forced smile on his face.
'I will attend to this after breakfast, leave these files here."
Ramla took Charlotte outside for a walk after breakfast, lying whole day on bed was causing adverse reaction to her skin.
'When I will be able to walk on my own?"
Five minutes stroll in the lawn popped the bubble of her happiness, Charlotte was exhausted beyond words. She almost choked on the water when Ramla calmly responded to her query.
'A month."
'What?"
She squealed with the surprise, Casper covered his ears to avoid damage.
'Eric has left his blood in vials for you. You will be fine to go back in two days."
He gave a death stare at her lie, Ramla giggled at getting caught.
'It was a half lie, You Majesty. Her Highness indeed needs a month to recover back to normal."
As he kept glaring at her, she shot up and left quickly.
'I have to cook medicine for Her Highness."
'OOO.
So, The King Casper knows how to intimidate his subordinate."
Charlotte commented on his frosty aura in awe, he chuckled and came back to his funny self.
'These innocent subordinates has ruined my vacation and informed my hide-out to the court officials. They have sent loads of files to spoil the relaxation."
He threw a blue file before her.
'So, you came here to runaway from your responsibilities. Wow! You were initially claiming that we were friends. Selfish!"
She aimed a glass of water at his head, which he caught beautifully.
'You are in a good health to attack like a free bird, then you must help me with this difficulty."
Servants placed a white board in the yard, he wrote two words on it with a red marker.
'The Devil!"
