ALLISON POV
I was appreciating my appearance when I heard a soft knock on my door.
'Come in," I said, turning to face the visitor. Helena walked in looking excited.
'Did she finish the food?" I asked expectantly with hope glimmering in my eyes.
"Yes she did, she even finished drinking the poisoned water," Helena answered.
'Hope you weren't the one that served her the food?" I asked her worriedly, I didn't want to bring any traces back to me.
'I wasn't, but she called me to clear the plates," she explained.
"Absolutely wonderful, good, good, good, this is perfect," I said, dancing around my room in excitement. I controlled myself when I remembered I wasn't alone in the room.
'You did a good job, Helena, here's your balance. Don't let anybody know anything about this, else you will pay the price with your head," I warned her sternly, handing her the balance.
'Thank you, My Lady," she said happily, kneeling down.
"You may leave," I dismissed her. She left immediately.
I scoffed when she left. Foolish maid.
If she thought I would let her roam free with this secret, then she had just made the biggest mistake of her life. I need to get rid of her before she uses this against me. She doesn't seem trustworthy. I need to cover my track.
Once I'm done with Vanessa, I will have to get rid of all the concubines, especially Octavia. She is a bigger threat to me than I had imagined and if I leave here she will take me down.
Camille is the least of my problems, she's just quiet and won't think of anything dangerous.
She hated the Alpha, she was forced to be his concubine by her father, who was eager to hold more power.
I summoned the other concubines to our hideout in the isolated west wing. Nobody went there because it was rumored to have spirits roaming in it. Well, I spread the rumor with the help of Octavia.
I walked in before all of them, spiking the juice they would drink with a tiny bit of arsenic. Slow but steady kills the ambitious concubines. If I had my way I would warn Camille not to take it, but I pray her star fights for her.
'Welcome Ladies, I bring good tidings 'I said, when they all settled down.
'Is she dead?"
'Did she take it?"
'What happened Allison?" rang all round the table with the concubines excited except Camille, who sat down quietly looking gloomily.
'Calm down ladies, yes she took the food and even finished the water, and no she's not dead yet, but soon, no one can withstand the effect of that quantity of arsenic," I said proudly.
"Good, we will get rid of that annoying Vanessa who stole the Alpha's attention from us,'' Octavia added.
'Let's toast our success, to the riddance of Vanessa 'I said with my non-poisoned glass of wine.
The other concubines raised their glasses and drank from them, except Camille. Good, my prayers worked. Wait no, Octavia wasn't drinking hers, rather she was looking at me intently.
'Why aren't you drinking the wine?" I asked her. The other concubines hushed and turned their gaze to her. Camille used the opportunity to pour her drink on a nearby flower vase. I smiled at her shrewdness.
'Did you poison the drinks?" I added, poisoning the minds of the other concubines.
'Why would I?" She asked defensively, looking shocked.
"Then why are you the only one not drinking the wine?"
She took the glass and drained all the contents to convince us. Being manipulative worked again for me.
'See, I drank all of them, I didn't poison any drink?" She said nervously, looking to see if the other concubines believed her.
'We believe you now," I said.
'Yes we do, it looked suspicious at first, but it's all good now,", the concubine by the name Sasha gently.
I dismissed them and they left except Camille. I wondered why she lingered owing to the fact that she's always the first to leave at the end of our meeting.
She turned to me, looking into my soul. I got tensed, but I held myself and I looked at her with an expressionless face.
'I know what you did, Allison," she said bluntly.
'I know you did from the moment you refused to drink the glass, I even knew when you poured your drink inside that flower vase. But I didn't say anything because I don't want you dead. You have suffered enough to die because of a man you don't even want," I said, meaning my words. I felt for her.
Her eyes gleamed with tears that were threatening to pour out any time soon.
'But you should have warned me," she said.
'I know you wouldn't drink it because you are very intelligent. Besides, I prayed to the Moon Goddess to stop you from drinking it."
She sobbed silently.
'I don't want to stay here, I want to go to my mate's little home to welcome him every evening when he comes back home. But my father spoiled all that by giving me out to the Alpha. I begged the Alpha to let me go, but he was so cruel to hold me here against my wishes," she said, sobbing. I walked to her and held her in a soothing embrace.
If my zeal to be Luna was high, then Camille's dread of being Luna was lower. I always felt bad for her the moment she walked into this palace.
'Once I get rid of the other concubines and become the Luna, I promise to let you go," I promised her.
"Thank you so much Allison, I promise never to let any other soul hear even a breath of what you did," she said. I knew she wouldn't do that.
"I know, I trust you."
She cleaned her eyes, and we left the room before anyone suspected we were there.
