Sitting down under the huge oak tree with some guards and maids that were idle, they were talking about the royal family and it caught my attention so, I diverted all my attention there.


'The Alpha is good, and some of the concubines are wonderful souls but the rest are Devils in disguise," a guard by the name Parcy said, with a tingle of love and hate.

'How bad have you been treated and are you complaining? At least it's much better if you stand in a spot without going or running anywhere most of the time. We maids go through a lot in the hands of the concubines, especially Lady Emily, Sarah and Cassandra. Oh my …" a maid said, shuddering in dread.

'Then what will I do if y'all are complaining this much? I'm Emily's personal maid and when I say I have seen hell on earth, I'm not exaggerating. I mean it, if only duties would be rotated I would choose to be Camille's maid. I wish she would do something that would be bad and that she would have to be chased away." Annie cried literally, and my heart was filled with pity for her. I couldn't believe I was deceived by that little snake. But one thing is sure I'm getting my own pound of flesh.


'Being the Alpha's bodyguard is a treat, all I have to do is to follow him around which is not very often and he gives me cool cash a lot. What more could I ask for?" I looked at the man that finished talking, he looked quite robust evident of the claims he was making.

'Don't worry Newbie, you are lucky you know, you got to be the Alpha's bodyguard immediately you were employed, while few of us have stayed in this place for years before being recruited as the Alpha's bodyguards. If you were a woman I would have said your beauty charmed him, but the Alpha is all soaked up in pursuit for Lady Vanessa and I pray he finds her."


"I pray so too."

"He will," they all chorused. So they were all eager to see me but why? I need to ask so I can satisfy my curiosity.

"But why do you guys love Lady Vanessa and why?" I said, looking up to see that they were all smiling brightly.

"Newbie, you won't understand no matter how we explain to you, because you didn't meet her. But don't worry, when we find her you will understand," the robust man said.

'My name is not Newbie, it's Gabriel."

'Ayyy, Gabriel, I'm Curie."

'Just answer the question, Curie, I'm curious that's all." He smiled looking at Amara.

'You see, she was an angel in human clothing with love for everyone no matter how low your rank was….." her words was cut short by the approaching footsteps towards our gathering. It was Evans.

'The Alpha would be back in a few minutes' time, stand at the entrance of the palace so you will start your duty immediately. Don't be slow," Evans said to me. I learnt he is the Gamma of the pack, he is nice actually.

Being among the maids and guards has made me get used to them more and I was starting to enjoy everything about them.

The palace gates were opening and I rushed to my position straightening my clothes. His car drove in with three more and I put on my expressionless face, his car stopped and the chauffeur came down immediately to open the door for him.

My heart leapt immediately when he came down from the car, I frowned at the giddiness. He began walking closer and I got nervous, he stopped at my front looking down at me with his painfully handsome face.

'Good afternoon, Alpha. Welcome back," I greeted, looking down suddenly finding my feet interesting. He didn't respond and I looked up and our eyes met, he walked away and I followed him. Why was he looking at me?

He went to his study and I stood outside his door guarding it. Emily was about entering his office but I stopped her.

'The Alpha asked not to be disturbed." She frowned looking at me with contempt, I stopped myself from rolling my eyes.

'Are you calling me a disturbance? I want to see the Alpha and that's period." I wanted to slap her but doing that would be very disastrous for our plans, and that's the last thing I want.

"I'm sorry, Lady Emily, but you can't go inside. The Alpha just came from the meeting, and he's very tired, and he needs rest," I said, with the nicest and most respectful tone.

'Fine. I will come back later," she said. Don't ever come back I thought, smiling to myself. When I turned to stand properly at my post, Andrew was looking at me with surprise laced with confusion on his face. I got lost and I didn't know how to explain my actions, so I acted all of a sudden as I straightened myself up looking ahead frowning.

'You are a very strange young man and that's very suspicious," he said, before walking away.

If anyone would be tagged strange and suspicious, then it would be him as he was everywhere watching my every movement like a shadow.


Two hours later, I was already feeling very tired and sleepy but sleeping wasn't an option. What if something or someone enters during my slumber and hurt Axel, I will be killed too for not being able to carry out my duty properly. The Alpha's door opened from the inside, I looked down immediately.

'Why are you still here? Why haven't someone taken your place?" He asked.

'They will be here soon. Please you need to rest so the huge weight of being the Alpha won't weigh you down," I said, raising my head to meet his piercing gaze, I looked away in embarrassment.

He said something walking away, I didn't get it before closing his door back, while I breathed out. Seems half of my time here would be used in breathing out in relief.
