Chapter 75 I don't want to see you crumbling.
He loves her and this is all he knows. A single drop of her tears falls like a molten lava on his heart. He laid beside her and continued to stare at her face. She was sleeping soundly and peacefully. He could not take his eyes off her and kissed her lips gently. She moved a little due to his touch but calmed down again. He ran his thumb on her plump lips. They were enchanting. Because they just had a session, he could smell himself on her. That demonic smell was arousing him again. "Not again". He put his head on the headrest helplessly. 'You will be the death of me, Carissa'. He said to her in the thoughts while his eyes roamed at her.
In the morning, Noah was all dressed up in a grey suit with a white shirt and black tie. He was trying to find something and all of his rambling caused her to wake up. She sat on the bed while her hands were rubbing her eyes. Her face was pink and glowing, but her short hair was messy.
Noah glanced at the half sleepy figure, "I am sorry." His rustling was the cause for her discomfort and he felt guilty for it.
"It's okay. What are you trying to find?" she asked.
"A USB drive. I placed it here…" he pointed at the side table, "but now I can't find it".
"Is it important?"
"Yeah".
"Are you sure you left it here?"
"As far as I remember".
His phone was continually ringing too, maybe something very urgent was up.
"I think you are getting late. I will look for it for you and send it to your office".
He stopped searching for it and looked at his mobile. "You don't have to, I don't need now". He leaned forward and kissed her forehead, "See you in the evening."
"Hmm. Have a good day then". She shouted from behind.
Carissa was wide awake. She dressed up and had breakfast. While eating she thought of the USB. Carissa hurriedly finished it and went to the room, to complete the task, he denied her offer but she wanted to find it for him and Carissa also wanted to surprise him, as she was getting bored in the home all alone. It was better to go to his company and spend some time with him.
She looked for it in every nook and cranny but still after an hour there was no sign of the drive. She went to his study room, searched the table and found it in the drawer. He did not leave it on the table in the room but on his study table.
She was done with all the searching and going to leave, but her eyes landed on the file that was neatly placed in the drawer. The file cover was very exquisite, with a black velvety material, and on black leather the words confidential were carved. For some strange reasons the file attracted her interest and attention.
She thought for a while, because if she will be in Noah's place definitely she will not like this act. Even though they are a couple, a couple needs their own privacy too. The curiosity was too much, you know how a devil whispers before you commit a sin or crime, the same things happened to her. 'It will be just some company documents. I am not going to sell his secrets so it doesn't matter'. Carissa thought and made an excuse to stop herself from feeling guilty.
She picked it up and opened it, some pictures fell on the ground. Carissa stooped low to pick them up, but her hands trembled as her eyes landed on them. A woman in the pictures was brutally wounded. Her face was disfigured so it was hard for her to tell who she is. Carissa placed the pictures in their spot but the words that were written boldly made her tremble once again. The file fell from her hands on the table and she stepped back.
Her eyes were not teary but a sob left from her mouth. She felt her body getting weak, her knees gave away and she plopped on the floor. The sobs were continually coming out of her mouth. She placed her palms to stop them but it was of no use.
A maid that was passing from outside heard her sobs and rushed towards her. Fortunately the file was closed so the maid did not look at it.
The maid held her hand and asked, "Madam, are you okay?" She asked with a grave concern.
Carissa was not in her senses at all. After reading what was written she knows who the woman was. She looked blankly at the maid, her body was still shivering. She pulled her hand from her grip, "I am fine, I was feeling a little dizzy. I am okay now". She tried to appear calm and stood up like nothing had happened.
The maid was still worried about her. Carissa looked at her as she had not left yet, "You can go". There was an authority in her voice.
The maid helplessly left her alone. When Carissa was alone she placed the file on its spot and normalized herself.
The whole day her mind kept diverting on the same thing. 'What is Noah up to? Why is he hiding such an important thing from her?'
Meanwhile, a man came to meet Noah in his office. Except Aaron and Carissa it is the third person to enter here. This means something very important is going on.
"Good morning sir". The man said.
Noah pointed at the sofa, as a signal for him to sit there. He closed the file he was working on and joined him.
The man started reporting, "Sir, as you know the incident occurred 22 years ago. There were not as many CCTVs as they are installed now. It is hard to look into the matter…." Instead of reporting he was telling him how hard it is.
Noah massaged his temples, his voice was low but very cold and strict, "Did I pay you so much to hear this blabbering?" His one sentence shut the mouth of the other party.
"I am sorry, Sir". He was quick to apologize, "I have given you the data… but this time it is about the culprit." He placed another file that was similar to the one Carissa has found in the study, "This is the man, James Wilson. Age 51. According to my investigation he was a driver at Zak's residence 22 years ago. He was in charge of driving Mrs. Zak and the daughter Carissa Zak. So, their connection is in front of you. After the incident he disappeared like a bubble. Currently living in a remote village on the mountains. The address is here…." He pointed at the specific part.
"There is also a possibility that he is not the main culprit but he can be a crucial hint in leading us to a master mind".
"Okay, you can go". Noah already analyzed everything there. He stood up in front of a glass wall, from where almost the whole city was visible. "You have to be strong, to face the reality, Carissa. I don't want to see you crumbling". He said with closed eyes as her lively and cheerful image was in front of his eyes.
