Qin Mobai is an unemployed antique appraiser in the city who was fired after insisting on "telling the truth" to a customer. Burdened with debt and facing a bleak future, he returns to his ancestral home after a ten-year absence, only to hear a secret from his dying grandmother that could destroy his family's honored reputation—the "Family of Loyal Heroes" plaque may be a complete fabrication. To uncover the truth, facing both moral and legal pressure, he excavates his ancestors' graves at night, discovering Japanese military commendations, insignia, classified documents, and photographs of his ancestors. As more tombs are opened, the lines between family heroes and traitors, intelligence agents and betrayers, become increasingly blurred. An archaeology graduate student Chen Xiaoyu, antique dealer Old Wei, clan leader Qin Zhengde, the police, and villagers all become involved. Caught in a web of financial temptation, moral accusations, family threats, and legal pursuit, Qin Mobai slides deeper into the abyss: he secretly sells artifacts to pay his debts, yet torn by conscience, anonymously donates all the core evidence to the National Museum. Is "truth" ultimately salvation or destruction?
